I use a MacBook that is almost 4 years old. People usually say that Macs don't need an antivirus as virus creators don't target Macs. Is this still true? I haven't had any issues so far but am concerned that these days even Macs won't be spared of virus attacks.

I think it's still true...Even the number of users are increasing recently, it's still far less that that of windows users. Also, the design of virus defend system is pretty strong. So basically you don't need to worry about your computer being attacked as long as you don't log in some websites that are unsecured...By the way, even windows PCs can be safe now if they don't have antivirus softwares. Don't worry about it...

Pretty much. Such a large percentage of the world's computers are Windows-based PC's that it's really not worthwhile for virus creators to target Macs. We see a few come in for things like optimizations and hardware upgrades every week, but I can't recall seeing one come in because it had a virus. PC users, on the other hand... seems like every other one has a virus problem.
