Really? Are these people for real?

So I am reading that a few Christian leaders are blaming Hurricane Harvey on gay people. What?
So they say it is Gods punishment for electing a lesbian mayor and Houston's acceptance of the LGBT community.
Now I don't care what your sexual preference is, nor do I care what "God" you believe in. But I thought I read somewhere that God is forgiving, I thought there was something about giving free will, for us to choose our own path?
I would think if God was going to punish people wouldn't he/she start with like, I don't know, maybe mass murders, and child rapist. I would think that would be the place to start.
I do find it odd that the "gay people" are to blame for this. I do like the comment from the former mayor...."Darn it, I thought no one knew I had a super power over weather," that made me laugh.

When I read the first sentence, I laughed! Only because it is so ludicrous, that you just have to laugh. I can't believe people actually think like that, and I am also afraid of people who say things like this, because they are the type of people who create "witch hunts" on perfectly innocent, good people.
The fact that these people are leaders shows how far behind we are. I heard a statement in a television show once "technology is evolving, however human beings are not capable of going any further" it was something to that affect. And sadly I believe this is true, I feel there are some people who still have the same mentality as we had in the dark ages. Even Neanderthals would have more compassion than many of us!

@percyboots The question is WHY? Why is this world in such turmoil? Why are so many people stirred up and angry? There is a reason. There is an answer. Watch this short 3-minute video and you will understand.
Why study the Bible? Find answers to life’s big questions: Is there a God? Will suffering end? See how to get a free Bible study at a time and place convenient for you.

@Bensen32 Totally! But in this case, sadly, people get hurt due to bullying, and worse being killed.
I reckon there's going to be some major ageism attacks eventually. There are so many baby boomers right now. Or it will just be another reason to get annoyed about something.

Those people are hateful and sick. A few years back they discovered a genetic cause for "gayness" and I pointed that out to quite a few "holy rollers" I knew. I asked them if God is perfect he obviously does not make mistakes so didn't he men to make these people what they are? They argued back that it must be from the devil or that God made them that way to challenge them, giving them something they needed to find the courage to resist giving into. Those people are so, so sick! They will rationalize anything in order to fit their view of God.
And now they say Harvey was a warning to stop being gay. I read another thing about someone saying that Houston had a very large abortion clinic and that's why the hurricane hit. Nonsense.
If God wanted to punish Texas would he really do it through a storm that could be tracked for days and give people time to prepare? And doesn't he have more important things to do than crush a few people over their imagined sins?
God is a loving, forgiving parent but these sick people need threats hanging over their head from an angry, hateful god in order to live their lives. They are truly sick.

If it was Christian that believe that then thank God, my dad is not one of the few types of people and he's Christian. The only thing my dad says about God regarding to what happened to Harvey is the same reason anything else happens, only God knows why he did it and he may have a good reason or a meaning to it. Not a punishment at all but a meaning to what happened. Who knows what the other Christian's mind is that think that way.

Yea, I certainly was not implying that all Christians think that just a couple said something about it. I guess things happen for a reason, depends on your beliefs. I think sometimes things just happen and we deal with them the best we can. I wish I had all the answers :)

Nowadays finger-pointing seems to be the norm @Bensen32 .
