Often, when I do these music countdowns, a coin flip comes into play when I'm ranking songs. Such was the case here, and this one came up "heads." #9 in my Favorite "Strange" Songs series is a band making their first appearance in one of these countdowns: "Stranger" by Jefferson Starship.
After a three year absence, Grace Slick returned to the band for their 1981 album, Modern Times. "Stranger," which features both Slick and Mickey Thomas on vocals (and some great guitar play from Craig Chaquico,) was the second single from the album. It did alright, peaking at #48 on the Billboard Hot 100.
(Fun Fact: Modern Times was the first Jefferson Starship album for which videos were made.)
I've linked to the official video. Dig Grace Slick's 80's hair!

I always liked them, until they became just "Starship." I didn't care much for that stuff.

Good song. I'm watching/listening to the live video, and I like their southern rock three-guitar impersonation during the instrumental interludes.

I kind of lost touch with Jefferson Airplane/Starship after Marty Balin left. He was involved in so many great songs for that group. Great songs like "Miracles and "Count on Me" were classics.
