Morning Update

I went to bed by 8 pm, last night. Yes, I still have a cold. I slept well and could happily go sleep some more if I were not working. I did very little house chores yesterday so I have to get busy this morning. My picture is one from the zoo, but I wanted to share.
I am not sure what the problem is for this Eagle, but I do know that the only time they are allowed in a zoo is if they have been injured in some way and cannot live in the wild. The same is true for Golden Eagles, I believe. Zoos have to be able to provide special care to these symbols of our nation and must have a special permit to keep them.
Princess Kitty finally decided to go outdoors for the first time in about a week.
It is cool this morning, but will be in the 80 degree F range. this afternoon It is a wonderful fall afternoon.
My lawnmower died last week. I keep killing them. Hubby went looking for the part that he needed to fix it, but could not find the part. He did, then, buy a really good mower for a decent price on seasonal clearance. We shall eventually have them all running so that we can both mow at the same time.
Last winter was so mild people even mowed then.
So here it is, Monday, and I am going to get busy. Have a great day.

I have a late start today. First client isn't until 9 and my day will end at 3:30. Last client is a 4 hour visit and I will bring my crochet work with me. After the cleaning is done we talk and watch television together.
Mondays are hard when you are not feeling well. Hard too to get motivated if you just want to sleep. Hope you feel better soon Heather.

My day always begins with an argumentative child who does not want to follow her schedule. She also has sleep issues and had only had an hour and a half sleep. It got better after a while.

@just4him I had not heard of this. It sounds like he would fall under the category of "public educational" though.

Yes, Eagles get injured in oil country and I am not sure how else, but you have to have special permits to have them. Native Americans use eagle feathers as part of their ceremonies and they more often can get permitted for the feathers. Here is a very small part of the Wikipedia article on them Permits are required to keep bald eagles in captivity in the United States. Permits are primarily issued to public educational institutions, and the eagles which they show are permanently injured individuals which cannot be released to the wild. The facilities where eagles are kept must be equipped with adequate caging and facilities, as well as workers experienced in the handling and care of eagles. Bald eagles cannot legally be kept for falconry in the United States. As a rule, the bald eagle is a poor choice for public shows, being timid, prone to becoming highly stressed, and unpredictable in nature. Native American tribes can obtain a "Native American Religious Use" permit to keep non-releasable eagles as well. They use their naturally molted feathers for religious and cultural ceremonies. The bald eagle can be long-lived in captivity if well cared for, but does not breed well even under the best conditions.[130] In Canada, a license is required to keep bald eagles for falconry.[131][b]

@GardenGerty That's very interesting. Then I would imagine that guy that has the Eagle named Freedom has a special permit as he does present this bird at various shows.

@sallypup I think sometimes allergies weaken us so that we get a cold, too.

I never knew that zoos had to have special permits for eagles.
A lot of people have mower issues. Mowers must be finicky things.

Some of my issue is that I do not always shelter them from rain. Part of the problem is my yard has lots of hills and furrows and the grass is tall because I got behind this summer. I think the newer mowers are finicky, so they break sooner and we have to repair or replace them.

We arre feeling some of the impacts from Irma. It has stayed cool for the past few days, but today there are wind advisories for several counties in my area. I am not bothhered by the change of weather, and am anticipating a nice and brisk fall.
Is this not the season to try buying another good moer, weed eater or parts for both?

You get good deals on the actual mowers etc. Repair parts are hard to come by though.

Oops, hope you can get some running mowers. We don't have a lawn here and we have some neighborhood guy who comes and maintains our weeds and shrubbery. He even waters for us now.
Good picture of the eagle. I do hope he isn't suffering in some way.
I think we are supposed to get up to mid 90s again today and then the temp is supposed to lower again. I'll be glad when the hot temps are totally gone till next year.

I posted an excerpt from Wikipedia about captive Eagles. He is probably faring better in captivity than he would in the wild with injuries. A high percentage of their injuries are related to how man is in their habitat.

Our "lawn" is pretty rough, kind of need an ATV for it. We struggle because we do not have local repair people for many things.

@JudyEv It is the soil underneath that is rough. Lots of limestone under ground. Lots of dips and swoops.

@GardenGerty Our grass which we call 'lawn' isn't really lawn either but it isn't really rough.

He is doing better in captivity than he would in the wild. Institutions that have eagles have to have staff that are trained to deal with them.

@celticeagle Years ago, as a bus driver, I went to a place called The Prairie Raptor Game Preserve, but all of the birds there were for rehab or protection.

I was surprised to learn at this zoo that the black vulture is the largest bird, larger than an eagle. The bald eagle, as representative of our country is a protected species. You cannot even own feathers without a permit. Native Americans can get permits for feathers for ceremonies as the bald eagle is sacred to them.

I believe it was about 58 degrees when we woke up this morning. Now, it's probably about 65 outside. That eagle is pretty young, it seems like.
