How has Internet affected your life?

I always ask this question every time I handle a class in basic computers. Some of them do not have specific answers probably because in our country, not all of our college students have a background in computers and the internet during their elementary or high school years. Some just learned about how to use it when they enroll in a basic course.
However as years go by, I have noticed that the number of students with computer and internet background has increased thanks to gadgets and the internet itself. If before, students will simply have to rely on internet cafes or their own desktop PCs in order to access the web, right now there are a lot of ways to go to the web.
Internet for me has become a vital part of our lives. Except for some, we connect to the web to do a lot of things. As a working mom, I go to the internet to learn more about the topics that I will discuss, to look for ebooks that could help me understand the topics better, at the same time to look for ideas on how to organize a themed party for my son, house decorating ideas, garden ideas, recipes, earn money while blogging and so much more.
For my students, they rely on the web to look for topics for their research papers, get more sample programs to try on a certain programming language, they even try looking for solutions to the programming problems that we give them, get some DIY tutorials on doing makeup, doing the perfect eyebrows and a whole lot more. Some even had their videos uploaded on the web for the world to see.
Small children are no exception. Though parental guidance should be strictly observed here, but it is a reality that elementary and high school students would also go to the web to do their projects, play online games, chat with their classmates and of course one of their favorite sites to visit is youtube.
Somehow I can say that the internet has given us a lot of advantages and benefits. We may observe ordinary people becoming famous because of their videos uploaded on social media showing off their talents or something extraordinary.
Although there are also some whose lives have been greatly affected in a negative way because of scandal and humiliating posts. As they say, there are always two sides of a coin. With benefits, come greater risks. :-) How about you?

yes especially for our young people, a day without a connection to the web makes them bored and feel as if they are so outdated already.

very well said Marlina.. We should really be conscious of how much time we are supposed to spend on the web otherwise our day will go through without something productive unless we use the web for some productive ways..

correct, the younger generation always go to the web for the answers to their assignments and projects. sometimes, it has decreased their ability to be creative, imaginative and resourceful.

There of course are upsides to it and it is very nice to have answers to most anything right there for the taking. The downside is that it is there and has taken over much of peoples lives, they are so connected to the internet that they miss out on much of the things are are going on around them. Take a break and go outside and take in some nature, see what is going on in your neighborhood, step away from your computer, put down your phone and connect to a real person.

that is the sad reality. we are able to connect with people outside our area however we fail to connect with the people around us because we tend to be so attached to the virtual world. In fact some of the kids nowadays prefer to sit down with friends and play with their gadgets rather than do actual, physical games.
