Dying, ready or not

So many of you have expressed such kindness since my aunt passed away. We're getting the church ready, food cooked, flowers ordered, and extra chairs put in the sanctuary and fellowship hall where we'll serve lunch to the family and friends.
My husband is feeling much better today, praise God for his mercy. We were at the church this morning setting up the sound system for my song tomorrow at the funeral when the system quit working! So my husband is wherever? trying to buy a replacement. Oh, man.
But it will be fine. The important think to focus on will be my aunt and uncle and their family.
My aunt suffered for quite a while before she died from complications of Alzheimers. It was a long, slow, fading away of a life.
My father was young (44), strong, healthy, had just retired from the Coast Guard, looking forward to a new career when he was killed in an accident at work. One day he was fine, the next he was gone.
I've wondered which was worse. Losing my father in such a shocking, instantaneous accident or my aunt's lingering "long goodby."
Most of us don't have a choice in how we leave this earth, whether it will be quick (as probably most of us would choose), or suffering for so long.
I guess we have to trust God for whatever the future brings to us. He promised he would never leave us or forsake us.
But death comes to all of us in one way or another, ready or not.

Offering my condolences and hope all goes well tomorrow. Sending my blessings. I don't dwell on it just wishing I had had more time with my husband who passed away on August 17 and that too was unexpected. SIGH....

Oh, I am so very sorry about your husband. How long were you married? You'll be in my prayers and thank you for the kind words.

@1creekgirl I have written a couple of posts about this. We were together for a bit over 20 years so it seems so odd now to go on alone. I do know he is with me still and of course I have our cat Sid for comfort other than that I am truly on my own. His daughter Mara helps me with some things and takes me shopping now and then.

@RasmaSandra I don't know I missed your posts about this, I'm sorry. Do you have any relatives at all there, other than your daughter? Have you considered moving back to the US?

I would rather not suffer but as you said, that is up to God of course. My husband and I were just listening to a sermon last night about the fact that our days are numbered and we should be living each day for the Lord. The sermon said we should spend each day as if we only have 30 days left on this Earth.

I've had to deal with both and neither is easy. Glad that your husband is feeling better and I assume he'll be able to do the eulogy tomorrow?

Yes, the radiologist called and he has bronchitis, not pneumonia, praise God. He still feels weak, but he's planning to do the eulogy and isn't running fever so he's not contagious.

We'll never know when He's gonna be taking us. One thing for sure is it's going to happen. So let's just make sure to make the most of our limited time here. :)

So true, I don't want to waste a single moment God has allowed me to live.
