My Grandson Is Very Helpful!

Yesterday, my grandson vacuumed my whole house. He also carried some more boxes downstairs for the Yard Sale. Last week he washed and vacuumed my car. He has been trying to find a part-time job, so that he will be able to earn some money for gasoline. He drives to the high school, where he takes classes and then from there to the Tech Center where he takes one class and then to the Community College on some days to take more classes. The Tech Center is in one direction and the Community College is in the exact opposite direction. So, he puts a lot of miles on his car and needs to fill up the car fairly often. So, since he hasn’t been able to find a part time job, I told him that I would pay him to do some weekly chores for me. He liked that idea. He has always done things for me and without being paid, so now that he needs the money, I will pay him. I would have paid him before, but my son thought that he should be willing to help me without being paid, because I am his grandmother. He has always taken out my trash and done small favors for me since he was very young. He’s a good boy. Now, he’s a young man. He’ll be 17 soon. It’s difficult to believe. He is so grown up and responsible. I'm really proud of him. He doesn't smoke or drink or take drugs. He is very polite and caring.

What a wonderful grandson. Yes I think he deserves to get some pocket money for all the good things he does for you.

He is a good person through and through. He has been taught well by his parents. And I helped some too.

You are lucky that you have such a nice grandson and he wants to earn the money and not have it handed to him.

I think under the circumstances it is fine that you should now pay him providing you can afford it. He doesn't sound the type of person to take advantage of your kindness.

I pay to have my car washed by taking it to a car wash, but if he will do it, I would rather pay him. I offered to pay my granddaughter to clean my house, but she is just too busy with three kids and she has other obligations, so why not pay my grandson. No, he is not the kind to take advantage of me. That's for sure.

Yes, my son and his wife has raised a fine young man. I helped some too. He and I have had some major conversations over the years. He respects what I tell him.

Yes, he is a wonderful grandson and I'm very proud of him. The only thing I worry about is his safety at school and driving his car. He just recently got his driver's license.

That is wonderful. What a great grandchild you have. I try to get my sixteen year old son to help me, wow, it is like pulling teeth sometimes. But my daughter helps me a lot more and she is only 12. But I know he does a lot of things for his mother. So I try not to bother him too much. He does need to feel like a teenager.

I have grandsons who did the same things for me. They still would but they've grown up, married and moved away. They're good guys too. Appreciate your grandson while you have him near.

@IreneVincent mine are married and have one child each. One is divorced and raising his son by himself. My granddaughter is in school and works part time. She's still single. If you remember Celestine Sibley wrote that 13 is the best time for a grandmother and a grandchild and I believe she was right. I still have rocks that mine collected for me when they were that age.

I have tried encouraging young relatives of mine by paying them certain fees if they carry out certain tasks for me. I hope by doing that, they would learn to value honest work.

That's a good way to teach them, I think. Getting them ready for life as an adult.
