Take care of your heart and your health

I was just talking to a coworker and she told me that our friend died while having the dye test done to check for blockages. When they went to remove the tube her vein exploded and she went into cardiac arrest and they couldn't save her. When I had mine done they warned me that was one of the risks associated with the procedure but I didn't worry about it because so many people have it done. It makes me realize how lucky I was to go through all that I did. It is so important to take care of your heart and your health to avoid having to go through any of this. Like the doctor told me, "you can't change your genes but you can change your lifestyle." Sometimes it is in your genes and it can't be avoided but you can choose to live a healthy lifestyle and do what you can to try an prevent blockages, stroke or heart attack. This hits hard because I just went through it. My dear friend who passed was there to visit me at the hospital as soon as she heard about me. Not knowing 3 months to the day it would happen to her and she would not survive. I was blessed to have been given a second chance not everybody gets that. Please everybody take care of yourselves and your health.

It's good that you've given us a reminder to take care of our hearts and health. I'm one to take my health for granted and don't always do what I need to do to keep healthy. You certainly are lucky to have survived your heart surgery etc and can be an advocate for heart health

My bf just got this done yesterday and I was so scared he'd have a heart attack from it. Luckily he didn't have any blockages so was a quick test. But the doctor didn't give him any pain med's during test and on day two hes still in bad pain. They say no heart problems but what is causing his raised heart rate we are so wondering.

Glad there were no blockages. I hope they figure out the problem soon so they can work on fixing it.

@sweetpea5488 I went almost a year before I had a heart attack. They kept telling me it wasn't my heart. I was there every two weeks and never got any answers. It is frustrating. I know how he feels.

@Happy2BeMe All they told him is his heart is fine. It made him mad. All that pain and no answers. Been two months and still no answers.

The thing is, we dont think about it till its happened. I often hear people talk about eating and they get mad when you tell them they are killing themselves, they just say they are healthy. Well it takes time for it to kill you! I know I need to do more than I do now. Thank you for the eye opener, Today is a new day and as good as any to eat right and walk more.

That's so sad, your friend passing away during this test. We had a man die, after being on the treadmill at our local hospital. He had a heart attack, also.

They tell us the risks, but many times we just assume that it's a rare chance. I know you had done the test not too long ago yourself - I feel bad this happened to your friend with the very same test. A healthy lifestyle is important and I know many of us could be doing more to be healthy.

Thank you for the reminder, it's sad that life has a way of reminding us when something horrible happens like this. =( I need to work on eating healthier, it's a slow process but I am going to get there. I am so glad and grateful everything went well with your surgery and you are feeling new again.

I cannot imagine the fear being told that, yes, many go thru this test, but we can never take the outcome of it for granted. I'm so very sorry that your dear friend has passed. Hugs to you, and don't you ever give up. We need to for a lot of things, including this really great reminder of how we need to be mindful of our lifestyles and how it affects our body.

I know I need to eat healthier and get in better shape. I am still about 50-60 lbs overweight, even though I've lost 50 lbs. I try not to eat too much junk food. Heart problems don't seem to run in my family that I am aware of, anyway, but I am terrified that one day my unhealthy habits will catch up with me. I guess that's a good reason to try to lose weight and eat healthier. I am very sorry about your friend.
