Being hesitant to speak in English language

India
September 23, 2017 12:51am CST
Many people ,especially among Indians cannot speak English fluently. They hesitate to speak in English because they are scared that people will tease and laugh at them . They lose their confidence.. How can they overcome this problem?

I believe many Indians speak good English so if they can do it, the others can also study and learn and so they can speak confidently.

They need to be brave and speak as practice makes perfect. They can also practice among themselves and in the family.

I have observed that a lot of Indians are fluents in speaking English. In fact here, the owner and some of the officers of a BPO company based herein the Philippines, in oir province speaks veryood English. I think that's because just like us Filipinos even in our primary grades, English is already ne of our subjects. Thus, when we apply for jobs , it is the medium of communication too. I think, practicing or always seaking in English will help others know and speak english well. Every time one meets a new English word in whatever he is reading, he should look at the dictionary for ts meaning and how it is being spoken or its pronunciation.

English is not my mother tongue but over time I became fluent in the language. It was easy as that is a basic need to communicate for work and with those from other parts from India and the world. In fact, I can manage five languages with varying degrees of proficiency - siva

I don't laugh at people who can not speak English well because it is but normal for non-native English-speaking people like us, but constant practice can make one excel in it.

I find many Indians neglecting their own mother tongues which in my opinion is not very encouraging. English is a much easier language compared to any of our languages. Why not take pride in it and then focus on English rather than making it a their priority and an agenda.

I'm not that good either since English is not my mother tongue, but still I tried to communicate so long as they understand what I meant, We are not perfect so it is fine to make mistakes.

You can't say no without trying it first. I've seen many Indian bloggers on YouTube and they really speak very well in English plus I like that Indian accent though!

Hello Rubeena, It's so sad that instead of admiring other's effort, people critcise them. I understand it takes a lot of effort to learn something new. Morning is a very important time of the day. I would suggest that whenever you get up in the morning, stand infront of the mirror and speak ten sentences in English to yourself. Then slowly you can increase the number of sentences. You will gain confidence and improve your English. "Slow And Steady Wins The Race"
