I hate that I shop here but I do. Its so cheap afterall. Apparently as of some time lately they have gotten a new brand of Walmart plastic bags that they use here around the twin cities of MN that are terrible - thin and weak. And of course nobody double bags anythig. Just acouple of days ago I had a bag filled with bananas and some other items (thankfully no eggs!) And the bag did not even hold for the walk through the parking lot. It broke and my stuff wound up everywhere. Agh!
I remember Walmart employees used to overbag things and generally be wasteful with how many bags theyf give you for just one or two items... But now the opposite problem seems to exist!
Anyone else notice this? Or am I nit picking?

Over here in the UK they're doing something a bit different with plastic bags.
7+ years ago you couldn't even get a plastic bag for supermarket shopping in the Irish Republic.
There is now a minimum 5p charge on plastic bags from major retailers to reduce the impact on the environment.

@maezee personally I like it as long as the bags are of decent quality.
Here Tesco is the biggest supermarket, we have asda too which is part of the walmart group.
Tesco bags are now 10p but they say if they break they'll replace them free of charge...and they're very decent quality bags to start with.
Plastic bags should be phased out as they don't degrade and are bad for the environment...I'd like to see purely paper bags within a decade.
PS...I always bring my reusable bags when I do some shopping.

I've found that the supermarket carrier bags are stronger though now we have to pay for them @mike197602

Yeah if they are going to be so cheap..that is dumb..why not just let everyone bring their own bags then as if their cheap bags wont hold anything what good is it..still a waste.

They are using more environmentally friendly bags they surely aren't as good but a good thing would be to bring a laundry basket in your trunk so that you can transport things using them instead of the bags. or take an old shirt u don't wear anymore and watch a youtube tutorial on how to make a bag out of it and they are pretty useful and machine washable a good way to help with this aweful situation on both ends. for the planet and the stores and consumers.

So far our bags are the same, at least the ones hubby has brought home are. I keep telling him to take my cloth bags but he has a point with that we reuse the plastic ones too. Wonder if we will get the new ones? If so hubby with ask for a double bag if he has problems.

I have had the bags break a couple times on me from walmart. I have asked them to double bag the heavier things though since they don't do it unless you ask.

I was just at Walmart but did not notice any problems with their bags. Of course, that does not mean their plastic bags are not flimsy. I'm sure they try to buy the cheapest bags possible from their vendor to keep costs down and increase their profit margin. Capitalism 101. Except we as consumers suffer the consequences. P.S. I've also noticed an increase in some of the items I usually buy.
