Dining out with a star

Last week we were able to travel to New Ross in Ireland with our son. He was to play a lunch-time jazz concert at the New Ross Piano Festival accompanying jazz pianist Phil Ware. Appearing at night was the celebrated Enrico Pieranunzi, an Italian pianist who has recorded over 60 albums and has also written several film scores. We were all staying in a very nice hotel for the night and had the pleasure of dining with both Phil and Enrico. After the meal Enrico went back to his room and the rest of us played one of Damian's games. The Festival committee had a few headaches with Ryanair cancelling so many flights. Despite it raining all day the concerts were quite well attended. Pictured are Damian, me, Phil and Enrico. I'll show you a photo of my dessert another time.

I do not know many of the musics of Pieranunzi but I remember the “Fellini’s waltz”, I think he is more famous outside Italy than in his native country.

It's true that they are only famous in jazz circles. My husband's side of the family is from Kerry in the south of Ireland. I know many Americans have Irish roots.

I didn't realise he was a celebrity till later - or at least not such an accomplished person.

@JudyEv It's probably a good thing you didn't know so you couldn't get tongue tied or blush.

@Freelanzer I would have been more circumspect if I'd read his bio first but really you should be able to treat him as just another person. I am easily intimidated by important people so I'm glad I didn't know beforehand.

I'm sure many jazz players are not known too far beyond their own fields.

The chance encounter with Enrico Pieranunzi and Phil Ware surely made your day.Since they two are well known in musical business ,there must be a lot of fans of them.

They are well known in jazz circles but not so much otherwise I think.

I love the look on Enrico's face, I'll bet he is very entertaining. You look so happy and that boy of yours is handsome (Phil is easy on the eyes too)

I hadn't heard of Enrico before that night. I think many musicians are only known within their own genre.
