Do you set goals for yourself?

I always read about people that have certain goals in their lives. I have never been that way even though I sometimes have thoughts in my head what I want to do in the future or something I would like to accomplish by a certain time. Do you ever set specific goals that you want to meet within a certain time frame? Can you share what they are or do you keep them within yourself?

Yes I do, each year I make four, two easier and tow harder. I try to accomplish them within that year, if I fail I still keep trying and sometimes it takes longer but they get done, some of them never get done. Each month I write about it, how I did that month. But its rare I make the money goals like some do on here. My goals are much harder than making money.

It depends on what the goal is. I do set goals and try to stick to them.

I had a person set a goal for me several years ago when she read the first page of a story I wrote. She told me to have it finished by the first of March - 90 days start to finish. I thought why not. Sooner or later I would be working within deadlines for my writing. I did get the story finished by March first and felt very happy I could keep a deadline. I haven't given myself any kind of goals since.

@just4him You will have a lot of time when you go in space. Not much to do up there I don't think.

That is great that you met the deadline @just4him. I always plan it in my head but never get it done. How many books have you written?

@ramapo17 I think there are now 16 completed novels. I'm waiting for the fourth to be published. I have many more that need work on them.

I don't have big-time goals any more but I used to set goals. I think mostly they were kept to myself.

@JudyEv I hear you. I got to the point of not telling anything so I wouldn't feel ashamed when I didn't accomplish them.

I have no set goals but have certain basic tenets I follow keeping them at the back of my mind. They are:: Spend less than earn Live for others than for self, ie, try to be useful to society Never plan much ahead and enjoy the uncertainty in life than disappointments that comes with planning Accept the fruits of my efforts that are bitter at times but take it as part of life - siva

@LaJenna That is one that I plan on every year but somewhere along the line I don't keep up with it.

I set both short-term and long-term goals and ensure that I'm doing something everyday so I could reach those goals. Here in myLot, my only goal is to reach the minimum payout amount each month but I have no specific goals when it comes to the number of posts that I write in a day or the number of comments that I leave in a day.

I try to keep my goals small lately. For example I thought i might keep track of my time on the computer. Didn't maintain that goal though. If my goal is not personal i share because you can get support or help with it.

I set goals. both short-term and long-term. And to help make those goals achievable, I break them down into smaller pieces to make them more manageable. And if I don't meet a goal, I don't consider that a failure, I just re-evaluate the situation and adjust the goal accordingly. I understand that life throws us lots of curve balls along the way, so it's important that there is some flexibility built into our goals.

I like changing goals too as long as I don't have too much time invested in them.

@Bluedoll I wouldn't call it "changing" goals necessarily. It's more like "adjusting" my goals!

You've got that right @moffittjc. I might start off okay but things sometimes get in the way and I loose track of my priorities and then I never get on track again.

Should we brainstorm to find our own goals in life, or not?
I have taken a few goal setting courses over the years, but none of these have really motivated me enough to set goals for myself. I sort of believe that if I did they would "restrict" me in some way. I would rather be flexible enough to change direction whenever I want to do so. On the other hand, I sort of believe that God might have some type of a goal for me for my life. I could call it a goal, but most people refer to this as being more, a purpose. Is having our own goals important, or should we just follow God's goals for ourselves, and his will for our life, not our own? Does this just apply to spiritual goals though, or to the whole of our lives? Each spiritual goal is a focused love, in that it brings love into focus in you, from it sometimes being presently scattered, going in all directions, which is not so bad, unless you also go in all directions too, in your thinking. Each goal provides a focus for love to bring you into better focus of God. This is so because God's goals for you become your goals when you allow love to focus itself in you through God's goals for you, and this occurs when you are not pursuing goals unrelated to God, and which could be said could be you following your own goals then instead. We are told in the Christian Bible to put God and his goals for us first, and then all else will be taken care of for us. I have always striven to do this, and this is why I am reluctant to form any goals of my own for myself only.

When I was in my teens, I set a goal that by 20, I would become a terrific artist (cartoonist), a guitarist and pianist. Well, time passed, I am still doing nothing about them yet .

There has been many times in my life I have set Goals for myself. Many times, I have been able to also meet those goals head on. I from time to time will share them with someone, or let them know when a Goal is met and achieved, but for the most part since there are many nay sayers in my life, I tend to keep most things secretive now til something Good happens.

I have small and big goals, but their time is different. My work is still on both ends. Let's see what's going on in the future.
