Why Are All the 'Connor-Family vs. SkyNet' All Called ''Terminator''-Movies?

I mean; I understand that 'the first one' was about "escaping the terminator"--not about 'why SkyNet sent him' or 'how SkyNet took over' or whatever--but (especially after they GAVE us a good few words to use instead of 'terminator') why do they continue to be titled "Terminator"?

Maybe you would be a fan if it were named The John Connor Chronicles or Arnold, Still Hunky, eh?

Well as an expert in the field I can answer that question.
What does that give me? A doctorine in movie buff?
Firstly, the Connor series was written for tv not movieland but I get your point. The answer might be the terminator series of robots came out of skynet. Beware writers of fiction can do anything.
