Did the Veterans Serve 'the American Flag' or 'the American People'?

I can't quite see 'what the exact problem is.' I mean, did it start with Kaepernick (tho I hear 'players have been protesting the anthem for over 50 years now')? And what's the problem with "taking a knee" during the anthem? http://www.bing.com/news/search?q=nfl+anthem+protest&bnct=smc&FORM=EWRE&rrid=_4a4d8ca6-d007-c59d-34cf-7b40dfa07200 They say 'if they're not standing for the anthem, they're disrespecting America's fallen veterans.' But I think they're standing with the Veterans against 'what America has become today.' (I'm not sure 'what America has become today'--there are good things about 'America today' & bad things, as I'm sure there've always been--but I guess the NFL-ers are more concerned with 'actions speaking louder than words') I think there's a disconnect between 'that ideal' ("a government of the people, by the people & for the people" ... which is what we would stand in respect-of) and 'America's leaders' real actions.' And Donald Trump---I think his comments (that all the protesting NFL-ers should be fired) are the textbook-definition of hypocrisy ... paying lip-service to 'an unattainable ideal' while profiting off of the cancerous undergrowth. That 'unattainable ideal' used to be (and hopefully will be again) the light that enlightened our paths---satisfying middle-class workers to continue earning middle-class wages (as their co-workers & bosses were called up to earn higher incomes), because they knew that one day they would be 'called up' as long as they were obedient, efficient, and listening. The NFL's protest is showing us that we haven't been living up to the expectation (which is not 'living up to the ideal,' but rather 'living the life we can in the light of that ideal). Sort of like Christians save people by 'living as good examples, and showing our followers we live so well by following the light of an unattainable ideal,' Americans need to live in such a way as to show that 'the light of "possibility of being called-up"' is the reason why we're living rich lives.
