Smart Phones Are Dumb

Okay, I got my new smart phone in the mail and I've been trying to get it figured out. So far the only thing I've come up with is that it won't accept my Facebook login. I even checked to make certain I had the right info. I did. I got into Google, but nothing after that. I haven't figured out how to get to my e-mails. I don't see the sign for it.
I've determined that I'll only use this phone for talking and maybe texting. Not much else. Besides which, I haven't the faintest idea how you guys can sit and type on it. The keyboard is ultra small. Making mistakes is easy to do. You won't find me doing myLot on it, or playing games, or doing much of anything on it.
Smart phones are DUMB! I'm sticking to my computer for everything I need on the Internet.

I prefer to use my desk top at home, mainly because I can type on a regular keyboard and the screen is larger. I use a stylist to type on my phone to prevent all the wrong letters I type with my fingers.
At first I got advice from my grandson, now my 2 year old grandchild could probably help me. I think they're born being computer literate.

YEah, if you are just using the internet the best way is to use your desktop since it has a bigger monitor and keyboard. But, if you wanted to use a smartphone, perhaps you can buy a 6-inch smartphone for a bigger screen display and keyboard. Price starts at $150 for a mid flag phones.

@joanwanjala Thank you, because I know I'm not. I've never had a smartphone before, so I know I have a lot to learn with it.

@Juliaacv I watched a video on it this morning. I haven't learned all I need to know yet, but it was a start. I accidentally made a call to someone this morning when I was going through my contact list, a list I didn't know I had. When the person answered the phone I had to tell her who I was and ask who I had contacted because I didn't know which person my finger accidentally landed on. It's still totally frustrating. It was a good phone call to someone I've had on my list, but had never called before.

You made me laugh with your last sentence. Yup, having new "smart phone" needs a lot of time to figure it out. Sometimes, technology is making it complicated than having it user friendly.

sorry you are finding it difficult to sort your new phone out... when I did not understand how to use a certain thing on mine, I went into a shop that sells them and asked an assistant to show me how it works... and he did... try wal mart or best buy or target...if they sell phones one of the assistants will probably be able to tell you or one of your sons or someone at church ...

@sueznewz2 So far I'm on my own, but I'm learning. I can now get into Facebook, and can maneuver my way through it.

You just have to get use to it. My 80year old grandmother has a smartphone and loves it.

@fishtiger58 I figured it out on my own. I can get into FB, almost couldn't. I managed to lock myself out of the account, but that's good once again.

@MarshaMusselman That was the easiest part of this phone. I have it pretty much figured out now. Thanks.

I presume that you have an android phone. So, yeah you are probably right about keyboards on the smartphone. But, have you tried to flip your phone in landscape position, that way the keyboard will look a little wider and keys are now slightly space.
I am not sure of what is the main problem regarding your fb account, perhaps you can reinstall the app and try to log in again. For the email, if the Gmail app isn't available on the phone (it should be available), you should download the Gmail app in play store and input your email credentials.

@BelleStarr My phone is 5" with a 3.5 inch screen. I don't think they get smaller than that.

Yes it is a pain. I tried to add contacts this morning, found I already had some, and accidentally called one of my contacts. I didn't even know who I had called until I introduced her and told her what I was doing. She had a good laugh and told me she had the same 'fun' a year ago when she got her first smart phone. I'll stick with my computer for most things.

I agree! Good luck with your "dumb" phone. Mine was free to me - a promo to sign up for a certain cell service. I was looking ahead to using apps like navigation, games, fitbit, etc. Well it's too slow to even run something as basic as maps. SO. Yeah. I would rather have a regular "phone" than a "Smart" phone that doesn't do "smart" things.
