Does Drinking Coffee in The Evening Keep You Awake at Night?

I love my coffee. I have 2 cups in the am when I get up and I really look forward to it. I watch the news or check my emails and savor each sip of my java. I have always had one more cup per day around 5:00 pm. I have been noticing the past few weeks that I am having difficulty falling asleep no matter how busy I was or how tired I seemed to be. Have any of you had a problem with this? Unfortunately I do not care for decaf. I am sure that would help.

I don't drink coffee (only tea), but the caffeine will definitely keep me up. It's one of those "Murphy's Law" ironies: I drink tea all morning and can barely stay awake; at night I say the word caffeine and I'm up until 3 AM.
I drink decaffeinated or herbal tea at night.

If I remember correctly, there are those that it keeps them awake and those that it helps them to sleep. Try skipping the five o'clock cup for a few days and see if there is a change. I do not drink coffee any more as it gave me heartburn similar to a heart attack.

I can drink coffee in the evening and still sleep in the night, actually, soatme need coffee to fall asleep.. If I am used to drink coffee, I need it to wake up, but if I drink less and less coffee, I don't need it any more.. that way one can stop being addicted to caffeine.. I just added a cicoria drink - reminds of coffee - and increased it slowly and it worked..

I don't have any problem falling asleep even with caffeine but I know many people are sensitive to it. Timothy decaf is very good.

Yes drinking coffee in the evening will make you keep awake at night. I love drinking coffee. I have also noticed that whenever I drink coffee, I don't fall asleep easily.. I feel very energetic if I drink coffee at night, especially if i am sleepy when I sip coffee my sleep vanishes and I feel refreshed..
