I Am Smart Again

A couple of years ago I decided to get rid of my smart phone and go to a much simpler cell phone. I was happy with it and my cell phone company. No contract just a pay as you go phone. I think cell phone companies with a contract are just ridiculous. It's a phone not a house, not a car, just a phone. I was with Virgin Mobile for over 6 years and had no complaints with them. Mostly I had coverage everywhere I went except in a few boonies type places. I couldn't say that about other cell phone companies I was with prior to Virgin.
A few months ago Virgin changed one very important thing. And for me it was a big thing. They went to offering only Apple iphones. You could continue to use your current phone but when you needed a new one your choices were iphones and only iphones. I just didn't want an 800 dollar phone. Crazy if you ask me.
So I began to research phone companies and what they offered for the money. I ended up with Verizon and a deal I could live with. I got a Samsung Galaxy J3 Mission phone, one I had never heard of but that's not saying much. And it's a prepaid no contract.
The phone cost me 60 dollars and I pay 40 dollars a month for my service, which is unlimited calls and texts, and 3 GB data a month and the data carries over for 1 month. OK whatever that means.
Basically there are two things that I love and missed about not having a smart phone. I love to talk my text, no more typing on my phone yeaaaaa. And I now have that google thing. You know where you say " Ok Google" and then ask a question and this nice lady answers your question.
So what this all really means is that I have now reentered the world of technology. My sons are so proud lol.

Pretty darn confusing aye Valerie, I have my son here so he helps me a lot. I certainly am not going to use all the features it has, heck yesterday I didn't get a call or a text and didn't use it at all.

@fishtiger58 I got one call from my daughter and almost didn't know how to answer it. I now have that and FB figured out, so I'm good as that will probably be the only thing I will use on the phone.

@fishtiger58 Waze is a great app for getting places, it lets you know where the police are as well as any road hazards and it maps

I do like the talk my text thing so I will absolutely use that feature, but the whole apps thing is not something I will use at least not at this point. I hear they have an ebay app and I sell on ebay so I will probably get that app.

I love my smartphone and really don't know what I would do without it. I use it all day long. There are times when I need to look up important information. Nice to have an answer quickly at your fingertips.

I actually feel dumb using it because I don't know how to use it for certain things. But that's ok, if I can make calls and text my sons I'm good. I hate texting but like the talk for my texts feature.

I wonder why Virgin decided to restrict their services to iPhone? I guess it must be some type of money contract scheme. I need a new phone. My Android is on the fritz.

@fishtiger58 Perhaps they will realize the error of their ways and go back to both phones? How is your new service working out for you?

@Shellyann36 Everything is great even if I don't get how to use all the features of this phone. I just want to talk on it, but as I said kids like the texting thing, but at least I can talk my texts and don't have to type them.

I really liked Virgin and their customer service was fantastic. I wish they wouldn't have done that. I wonder how many customers they are going to lose. They lost me and both my sons because of it.

I don't mind typing on my computer, it's those phones that are so difficult. My son has big hands I still can't figure out how he can type on a phone, but he's good and fast lol.

I do too, but the older simpler phones are harder and harder to find and get service for them. I had to bite the bullet and get one, not that I wanted to but really had no choice.

Ive had a smartphone since 2010. At least. Wouldnt go back to plain phones. Weve never had a problem with T-Mobile, my moms had a contract with them for 10-15 years.

I did have T Mobile for a time and because I go to lots of lakes out where there are not a lot of towns I never got service, but with Virgin I did. I'm hoping I will with Verizon

I hear you, I don't care for all this phone technology but I want to stay in contact with my kids, so I have to roll with the punches.
