Disasters every week lately

Tonight I was watching tv and my husband was already in bed and all of a sudden I got an alert on my cell phone. A tornado was headed to our area.
How can so many things keep happening, it is the craziest year I have ever seen. I put the weather station on tv and there were warnings all over the news there.
There were actual maps on the screen showing where the tornado was. To close for me that is for sure.
I woke my husband as the warnings were to take cover and stay put. Once again we lucked out but the tornado when right alongside our area. It was actually a few blocks down and we were there this afternoon.
Supposedly it did hit a town about 45 minutes from us that we use to live in and my niece and nephew are still there. I tried to get in touch with them but no answer. I just hope they were sleeping.

I can't wait to go out tomorrow and see what some areas look like. I hope it is not to bad. We were right on the road where the thing hit today.

Are you in Melbourne right now? Is that where the tornado was? It's been raining cats and dogs here in Gainesville for the past day as that tropical disturbance moves over Florida. We're already getting flood warnings as our lakes and rivers are already bursting at the seems from all the water we received from Irma.

@ramapo17 I have a huge lake behind my house right now, where no lake has ever been! haha. It actually looks beautiful, but it's suppose to be an open field. Right now I feel like I probably could go fishing and catch something! haha
Here we are almost three weeks past the hurricane, and a 2-mile stretch of highway 441 is still closed just south of Gainesville because it is underwater. They say the water levels are still rising, and now they are concerned that I-75 (which runs parallel to 441) may have some flooding issues as well soon.

@moffittjc It is so weird this year and people would not believe all the water here.

We got phone calls to warn us about the rain and to tell everyone not to use a lot of water as the grounds as so wet. I have a lot of ponds all over the property. It would be nice if I wanted them but I really don't. We have a big lake here in the community and the one deck we have that has beach chairs on it is totally covered.

The power frequently goes out when a tornado is near me. Even if we aren't hit sometimes people have a hard time contacting anyone. I hope they are okay. I can't believe the crazy weather this year either. You think it cannot get worse, and then it does.

It was a good thing you had a weather alert on your cell phone and you could brace yourselves for tornado and the like.

I have never been in one as we never had them in New Jersey or Pennsylvania.
