2nd October is a National Holiday in India. It is birthday of Mohandas Karamchand "Mahatma" Gandhi. It is also the birthday of
Lal Bahadur Shastri, 2nd Prime Minister of India who was first real Prime Minister of Indian Republic, who worked for his country.
Iran's Nobel laureate Shirin Ebadi proposed for an International Day of Non-Violence in 2004, and resolution was passed in 2007 by United Nations General Assembly to celebrate 2 October as international Day of Non-Violence
Edit :- In India it is also celebrated as Dry day, and Sales- Purchase of Alcoholic beverages is prohibited on this day.
