Today's story has a different flavor than what I've given you these last few days. I know there are a few teachers here and this story is about teaching teachers to have fun teaching.
Dr. David Overfelt started teaching in 1946 at the age of 17. Harry Truman was president of the United States at the time and he taught in a one-room schoolhouse. He rose up to principal, and now at the age of 88 he's still in the education business, this time teaching teachers.
When the teachers come to his classes, taught at Rose Acres Elementary School in Chesterfield. Missouri, they are surprised to see him dressed as a clown. His purpose is to teach them to rediscover their craft. He said, "I teach if the heart is empty, it doesn't matter how full the head is."
At a time when it's all about test scores and no-nonsense school administrations, Dr. Overfelt is teaching teachers not to take themselves too seriously, and engage with the student. One teacher admits his methods kept him from quitting.

One doesn't have to dress as a clown to keep the students motivated. Lol! Even college students! I was taught early in my class work to first motivate students before each lesson, and let them know what they'd be learning. My students loved the surprise factor and humor the most.
