As someone (@ridingbethad) asked this question' Can 100 Notifications earn a dollar?"
Well the answer is NO, you can't and simply impossible.
I have 100 notifications in my list today. So, I decided to test it out by simply reply to all the 100 notifications in one shot, with LIKES, leaving short comments and smiley icons.
After that I waited for an hour, without other interactions nor discussions.
Guess how much I had earned ?
4 cents !!
Yup, this had proven that @LadyDuck and @JolietJake statement are absolutely true and correct. You don't get paid anything for 'answering' them . You will need to keep interacting with insightful comments, ask questions and when the person reply to your comment, you will make money.
So, as you can see, simply answering notifications alone does not help you to earn that much. You have to comment other people posts, create a new discussions and make sure that your comments are interactive type.
So, did anyone earned more than 10cents for answering notifications?
If you did, brilliant!
If you don't keep interacting and don't give up !

Your 'test' appears to be based on the false assumption that you earn based on your own actions, in this case, dealing with your notifications. To be quite clear: when you receive notifications, they are notifications of other people's interactions with you and you will have already earned something from those interactions (provided that the earnings have been updated). Whatever you do in the way of interacting with those notifications is therefore irrelevant if you are testing the statement "100 notifications earn you $1".
The other thing it's worth pointing out is that some notifications are duplicate notices of a single interaction. In other words, when it says something like "X commented on your comment in the discussion Y" and "X mentioned you in a comment in the discussion Y", both refer to a single interaction, There is no evidence at all that a 'mention' is counted as an 'interaction' and, when you comment on someone else's comment, their username is automatically inserted at the beginning of the comment. Other 'non-earning' notifications include when someone follows you.
In short, if you have 100 notifications, not all of them represent an interaction from which you have earned and, certainly, 'dealing with' those notifications will not (directly) earn you anything at all.

You are so much better than I am to explain. It is what I said yesterday to @ridingbethad, the fact to reply to someone, brings nothing to our own bank.

majority of the notifications were LIKES and the responses plus comments were only 40 percent. The rest did not reply. That is why earned 4 cents

As I understand it, interaction is like a conversation. If you answer with a "hum" or "yeah" the conversation ends and the other person moves on to where it is livelier and more interesting.

I would not reply if I felt like the conversation has nowhere else to go due to a person's very short comment like "yeah" or "thanks", etc. But there are people who will still find some way to reply to comments like that.

@lovebuglena Yet those people donĀ“t earn as much here as those who actually interact with other people. Besides, posting will not get you anywhere if it does not start a conversation.

@marguicha It all depends on other people. I can be on here leaving lengthy comments for hours, but if no one replies to them or likes them, I get nothing. And that sucks. Not so much that I earn nothing but that what I wrote, and the time spent writing it, was for nothing.

Then this means your earnings come when others react to your comments... If you'll not comment to others', they'll not earn from you...

At least you earned something and the experiment has served a useful purpose to inform us all.

Interesting test. I always interact with each notification I comment on.

It never crossed my mind to see by how much my $ amount changes after my responses to the notifications. Perhaps because I know now that my own actions earn me nothing unless others respond to them in some way. But perhaps it would be interesting to do that once - reply to notifications and not do anything at all after that for some time, and see by how much my $ amount changes. But then it won't be accurate anyway because in that time period someone may interact on something of mine that has nothing to do with my notification replies, which will increase the $.

You will not earn anything for those 100 notifications unless others respond to them. That's what I've learned. So, you can respond to a million notifications but unless others respond to your responses you will not earn anything. Weird the way it works.
