Hand Foot Mouth Disease!!

United States
October 5, 2017 8:35am CST
Little Miss is definitely sick. The fever is gone, but she has developed blisters in her mouth. Hand Foot Mouth disease is contagious and she will need to stay home for the next few days. Her mouth is very sore and she is not eating because of it. I have to make sure that she drinks plenty of fluids. Because of the sores she is unable to drink anything acidic so juices are out. She does drink milk without problems though. I have given her ice cream and yogurt which she only ate a small portion of yesterday. She did eat oatmeal in the morning. But, now that her mouth is so sore, she is refusing even the ice cream. She was exposed to this ailment at daycare. Two other children came down with it before her. I knew it was only a matter of time before she came down with it. Last night was rough for her. She tossed and turned and cried in her sleep. She woke and told me her mouth hurts. Makes me want to cry along with her. Here is a link if you'd like to read a bit more on it.

She just asked for some juice. I am going to give her a diluted cup of electrolyte water with water. Hopefully it doesn't sting her mouth.

@Blondie2222 the pain she is experiencing is the worst of it. At least when she had fever it could be controlled with acetaminophen.

We are not having a good time with it. My work is giving me a hard time now. They don't like it when you are out for more than a day. We are going on day 2 now and may need to take tomorrow off too.

This stuff isn't pretty. She cries so much that her mouth hurts. She can only eat soft foods like yogurt and ice cream. Even then it isn't much that we eats. She can only tolerate the pain for so long. Her temperature is controlled with acetaminophen. Thought she was free and clear today until it was almost nap time. Her temp was on the rise again.

@Courtlynn I hope that neither my husband or I catch it. Shouldn't be as severe if we do.

My sons got that as well when they were little,. I think they got it playing in their sand box. Apparently you can get it from the soil as well as from others. My husband then got it, but none of them had it as bad as your little one has it. I do hope she heals quickly. It's scary when they don't eat.

She is still uncomfortable. Ears a little more each day. Her mouth was sore earlier. She had oatmeal for breakfast, yogurt for lunch, and chocolate ice cream for dinner.

@just4him Hoping that by the weekend it will have run its course. Can be contagious if the blisters burst. We have to watch out for that one.

She is having a hard time with it. When she cries, so do I. My husband wants me to take her to the ER. Told him the illness has to work itself out. Nothing they can do about it. He is more worried than I am.

This goes through day care centers and preschools. Often is spread in water tables or sensory tables. I am so sorry for her. Not sure what would make her little mouth feel better.

She ate some chocolate ice cream for dinner. Couldn't get her to eat the acorn squash with maple syrup, or the mashed potatoes.

My grandson had this when he was three. He got it at the library, apparently infected children can leave the germs on toys and books and other things that they handle. We called the Library to inform them of the issue and after checking with the doctor they keep sanitary wipes available for patrons to use. The good part is they will never it it again, they are immune after having it.

I think she has received the shot for Chicken Pox. My kids didn't have that option when they were young. One came home with Chicken Pox and the remaining 3 got it a week later. That was not fun.

I had this when I was still at school. My class went on a week-long excursion. I could attend because I was on the way of healing but had to use my own cutlery and cup when we ate in a youth hostel.

I had it when my children were babies. My youngest somehow came down with it when she was 2 and she passed it on to my sister and me. Very painful.
