Hurricane Irma effected the city i live in. Alot of damage was done to our roof during the storm. So now our roof is leaking. I applied for assistance from FEMA over three weeks ago and Im still waiting for a response, but alot of my friends have applied and gotten checks in the mail already. Im not understanding why its taking so long to hear back.

You can update them or do a follow up and also include how long you've been waiting for your check.

I imagine that there are hundreds of people filing for FEMA assistance, they probably are just overwhelmed with all the destruction that Harvey and Irma did to the east coast and from what I understand the Atlantic isn't done with the east coast as yet.

At this stage where everyone is needing them, I am sure they are unable to keep up with too many calls and requests for help.. it wouldn't be this way if you were calling them in normal conditions.

I don't know why either, but even if they deny you, you can appeal it and get some assistance. I got some cash for foundation damage on appeal, when the earthquake hit this county.
