I feel it should be a balanced mix of both. Why I'm telling it is,I believe in something like this, learn from your past, never regret anything you did. No matter what you did, good or bad, you did it with all your heart. There is no point in regretting. If you have done too much good and regret it, learn from that experience as to, where to stop and what's the limit. If you did something bad, learn from the mistake and never repeat it again.
You can never go back and change anything. All we can do is, accept whatever happened and take the learnings forward.

The past is yesterday, the present is today and the future is tomorrow. Successful ones use yesterday to mend today and today is used to plan tomorrow. Anyone who fails to plan for tomorrow is planing to fail tomorrow.

I want to have control of my life especially my job, I don't want to depend on my parents.

They say to live in the "present". If I did that, my mind would come to a standstill.
What about if a person did something bad to you in the past? Do you put yourself out there and forgive (only for them to do it again)?
I sure do pray to God. I always thank Him for another day.
