Teenage stole a car and fled

My friend lived down the road from this incident. She was talking to me about it. A 15 year old boy and his girlfriend stole a car. Fled police, crashed and killed themselves. Now everyone is bashing police for killing them. Many posting how this young man was a good kid. But if he was why was he stealing cars and fleeing police?.
