First Real Run Since Leaving the Marines

United States

So this evening after a tough day at work I decided to go for a run. I ran for about 2.25 miles and now I'm soooore! I'm looking forward to running/walking more often. Any advice or tips on how I can stay motivated to keep on the track of a healthy lifestyle? Running definitely gets me thinking and ideas run through my mind constantly which helps my creativity in other efforts!

That's great how much you ran! Reminders always help me so maybe an alarm on your phone that tells you to do something healthy?

That sounds like a great idea I might have to do that.

Two point five is a good start. But if you are a marine, that seems lame. Running, or jogging, or brisk walking is definitely the best exercise to keep one fit. Aside from swimming, of course. Do find a safe place to run for a daily course, preferably with trees, and people. While running can increase already your brain cells, I will encourage you to watch the people and think about them, how they live, their manners, their get-up. You will discover that they are no stranger to you at all. When you are done doing that, look at the canopies of the trees, and how intricately the branches reach out to each other. Trees are like people, we want to reach out to our fellow man.

Lame is a bit harsh. I left the Marine Corps in 2011 and have health issues because of it. That being said while I was in the Marine Corps I was easily running 3-5 miles without issue.

Try joining a website that allows you to log your runs. I do that with my cycling. It's motivating watching those miles add up. Thank you for being a Marine, by the way. http://www.running2win.com
