Have You Ever Ridden On A Motorcycle?

United States

I rode on several motor cycles when I was a teenager. Then, after I got married, my husband bought a motor cycle and we used to ride quite a bit. My sons have had motorcycles too. Just one of my sons has a motorcycle now. A Harley. He loves to ride. He has had a couple mishaps so I’m always anxious when I know he’s out riding. How about you? Have you ever ridden on a motorcycle?

A scooter. Does that count as a motor cycle? A lot more caution needs to be used more than other transportation methods.

@IreneVincent People in cars and trucks don't always see a bike the way they do cars. I've had people not see me even while driving a car and just missed getting clipped.

Yes, that counts. Caution is really the thing, because there is so little protection for the rider.

@Bluedoll Yes, it's difficult to see a motor cycle sometimes. I try to be aware at all times. Around here, its common to see people riding bicycles on the back country roads. It's very dangerous. Several people have been hit and injured. I'm always very cautious when I see someone on a bicycle. Sometimes on these narrow roads, its difficult to pass them safely. I wish that they would find safer places to ride. Recently, a friend of my daughter, wrecked on his bicycle on a back road and had to be hospitalized. He wasn't hit by a car. He just went off the edge of the road and crashed into the woods. Messed up his jaw and face.

I never have. My fiance wants me to buy one for him and I but I can't see myself riding on one.

I can see then, why you would hesitate to buy him one. He might buy one for himself though and want you to ride with him.

@Happy2BeMe I had a cousin, years ago, who was killed on a motorcycle. Three of my sons have wrecked on their motorcycles. Only one still has a motorcycle and I worry about him all the time.

@IreneVincent lol I think I worded that wrong it should have said he wants to buy one for him and I to ride on. He can afford to buy himself one but I don't like the idea. My uncle was killed riding a motorbike and since then I don't like them.

I think there might be a lot of motorcycles in the Philippines, like there is here in the USA.

I used to ride motorcycles also but not anymore. Too old now. Plus, I sort of lost my nerve for it.

No, and I never will. They are way too dangerous. I have heard many stories of people being killed in motorcycle accidents. I remember talking to a guy who had his foot maimed due to a motorcycle accident where he had to spend time in the hospital having his heal replaced.

@LeaPea2417 My son has wrecked on his motorcycle, but was not hurt too bad. I wish he would get rid of that bike, but he loves riding it, he says.

My husband and I used to ride motorcycles when we were younger, but not any more. My twin boys both had motorcycles. One of them still rides a LOT.

It can be FUN, but it IS dangerous. The biggest problem is that the rider has little protection.

My Dad was really into bikes @IreneVincent so when I was 11 he taught me to ride. Now mind you this was a 650 BSA Triumph. I could barely touch the ground with my toes on either side. Shortly thereafter I laid the bike down on my leg and got 3rd degree burns. My daughter (47) has a Harley (purple).

I tried to ride one by myself but it was too heavy for me. I've ridden with my husband, my son, and once with a cousin back when I was a teenager.

OK. So you are very familiar with the motorcycle. I hope you are always careful. There is so little protection for the riders, if you are in an accident.

So, you are riding every day. It's a good means of transportation, but you need to be extra careful especially when you have your children with you.

I tried to ride a motorcycle by myself in a field one time, but it was too heavy. I could ride OK but when I stopped I couldn't hold the bike up.
