I was reading some articles written by psychologists and psycho analysts who are of the firm belief that putting your thoughts into words has a very positive outcome since it opens up your mind to new ideas and new approach towards turning these ideas into reality. Personally speaking I too have experienced this - when I make a list on what needs to be done around the house and what needs to be bought , I am automatically thinking of ways to budget and save towards making it a reality....please share your views ,thoughts and experiences .

I have experienced tough financial situations so I always have kind of next 25 years plans, and next few years cash flows listed, which I monitor. I also spend a lot of time analyzing financial products especially if they are concerning health because I feel health is toughest one to plan for. Planning for house is easy, planning for dowry is also easy. But planning for health can never be satisfactory.

I agree that writing down our priorities help us to understand an issue in a better way. I usually make a list of 'To do' activities during weekends etc. and I act accordingly.

@kiran8 For important tasks, I set a reminder/alarm in my mobile.

I agree 100%. Back 12 years agoon the middle f the summer I wrote in large letters " Quit Smoking on November 13th." on a piece of paper, hung it on the fridge door and I did. I also make 4 resolutions on Jan 1st and work toward those every year.

@andriaperry That's fantastic because not many are able to quit smoking unless they are totally determined .

Always believed that writing down my goals helps me keep these goals in mind which in turn has helped me achieve these.
This is a good practice.

Writing things down can definitely bring on new ideas, make things clearer, and even help you find solutions to problems or dilemmas. But does it actually get you to do those things? Say, you need to clean the house... will writing down all the chores you need to do related to house cleaning, actually lead you to do them? I am not sure that would be the case with me. I can write down that I need to clean the toilet, for example, but that probably wouldn't result in me actually cleaning it.

I make a list of how much money I should earn per day per site, if i can't achieve them, I would lower down the goal or ask around for advice until I figure out why

@peachpurple I agree , in my own case there have been times when I have made the same mistake more than twice before I learnt my lesson
