Know a lot of songs with "wild" in the title? @FourWalls does. She started a countdown of her favorite "wild" songs, and I jumped into the fun. I am at #6 in my series: "Wild Horses" by, in this case, The Sundays.
Did you know that The Flying Burrito Brothers covered Mick Jagger and Keith Richards' "Wild Horses" a year prior to the Rolling Stones placing it onto their classic 1971 album, Sticky Fingers?
"Wild Horses" is quite the popular tune. The Stones took it to #28 on the Billboard Hot 100 (and #11 in Canada.) Rolling Stone Magazine even named it the 334th best song of all-time.
In addition to the Flying Burrito Brothers, "Wild Horses has been covered numerous times, notably by Leon Russell, The Sundays, Otis Clay, Susan Boyle, and Buddy Miller with Shawn Colvin. And that's just on record. The list of bands and artists that have played the song live is impressive: Debbie Harry, Garbage, Elvis Costello, Neil Young, Guns 'N Roses, and Jewel. And that really doesn't make a dent in the list. As i said, popular song.
I linked to the official video for The Sundays' cover. It's my favorite version, after all. I think you'll find that Harriet Wheeler's voice is as pretty as she is.
Enjoy!

The video is the original video, only in 240p. The audio however, is 192kbps at 48khz. :) So... You might see this original video already on Youtube, but thi...

I did not know all these artists covered that song by the Stones. Great song! I remember watching a documentary about the Rolling Stones called Gimme Shelter and they were in the studio listening to the playback of this song. They were all in deep thought or stoned, and just grooving on the mellow feel of the music.

Keith said it's one of the best examples of he and Mick working well together.

@dgobucks226 - Then again, as @FourWalls said, it's always been speculated that Gram Parsons at least cowrote it.

The interesting thing about the Burritos "covering" "Wild Horses" is that there has been speculation for over 40 years now that Gram Parsons either wrote it or co-wrote it with Keith. That may be fueled by the fact that the Burritos' version came out a year before the Stones' rendition. Gram and Keith were good friends (they had a common pastime: heroin).
This is the original version of "Wild Horses" by the Flying Burrito Brothers released in April 1970, one year before the Rolling Stones version on their Stic...

Wikipedia says that they worked on it together, but that he "convinced" Mick and Keith to let him record it. Of course, it's Wikipedia.

I think this song has to have the record of covers by various musicians. Great song though.
