Do you use bookmarks?

I hate dog-earred pages so yes, I do use bookmarks. (The one in the picture is a souvenir from my mom's aunt who visited Cambodia a couple of years back.)
I recently read an interesting post about the different (and weird) types of bookmarks people use for their books. Leaves, pencils and pens, plane tickets, grocery store receipts - these are just some of the stuff people use. The most unconventional one I've used is probably my cellphone. That's when I can't find anything else to use.
Do you use one? If you do, what do you use? Anything weird at all?

I have beautiful bookmarks but many times I use whatever piece of paper I have around.

Those are the times that make me reach for my phone, since it's often the closest thing I could reach for.

Is that because you don't spend much time reading? Or how do you mark the pages?

I usually use pieces of paper lying around (that I make notes on) for book marks.

Well, why splurge on bookmarks when you can get free ones everywhere, eh?

I always use a book mark, I have many and the library will give them to you. But in need any paper will do.

Oh interesting to know that libraries give them. I don't think libraries here do that.

Yeah I get a lot of them when I go to book fairs. Still have some I haven't even used.

I will never dog ear a page. Most books I read are ebooks, but when I do read a book literally everything turns into a bookmark. When I was a teenager, I used to use a piece of paper and write my favorite quotes from books onto the paper and use that a bookmark.

That's creative! I like that it's very easy to create and design our own bookmark these days. No need to even buy them anymore.

Sometimes I do, and sometimes I just kind of remember where I am at. I will use essentially any kind of scrap I can find to mark my place. Good discussion!

Thanks snowy! I've started using bookmarks more often lately. Before I was like you - I'd use anything within reach.

Nice, what kind of feathers do you use? I think I would sneeze if I use them

I will use my cell phone for that. A pencil or a ruler will usually do.

I make them in a program called Coral Draw. I bring in pieces at a time and arrange them and see how want to do it. I also may use photoshop too.

Napkins! Interesting. I wouldn't mind using those as bookmarks, some of them are prettier than the real bookmarks!

I've been doing the same lately. I have a lot that I got for free from the last book exhibition I went to, so might as well use them.

I do use bookmarks as I hate to turn down a corner of the page in my book but the book I'm reading right now has a coupon from our local grocery store holding my place

I hate dog-ears too. My mother does the dog-ear thing. I use bookmarks. Sometimes it's just a piece of paper, or I have a metal one in shape of a girl.

So many cute bookmarks these days! I saw some fancy ones at the bookstore the other day, but I wouldn't buy any because I get free ones all the time.

I have a bit of fabric from my mom's favorite kitchen curtains that I cut into a strip for a bookmark; that's probably the one that's been with me the longest. But I do love bookmarks as much as the books. You have to think about what they're made of sometimes, because I had a red leather one that tinted the page pink, and even a receipt might leave an ink transfer.

Oh wow, good advice. Never thought of that. Lucky none has left marks on my book pages so far. I think using the strip from the kitchen curtain is such a cute idea though!
