Favorite "Bodies of Water" Songs #2 - "Deep Ocean Vast Sea"

Songs with bodies of water in the title is the theme of this particular music series, an idea that @FourWalls started with a couple of countdowns that she recently did. I am at #2: "Deep Ocean Vast Sea" by Peter Murphy.
Known affectionately as "The Godfather of Goth" due to his time spent as the frontman for pioneering goth band Bauhaus. When that band broke up, everybody took a decidedly non-goth direction with their subsequent careers (Murphy as a solo performer, while Daniel Ash, David J, and Kevin Haskins had quite a career as Love and Rockets.)
In 1989, Peter Murphy released his most successful album to date, Deep (#44 on the Billboard 200.)
"Deep Ocean Vast Sea" is the leadoff track from that record. The song was not released as a single, although Deep did spawn three of them (if you've heard one, it was more than likely "Cuts You Up," which was even used during televised golf tournaments for awhile.)
It might not have been a hit, but "Deep Ocean Vast Sea" was the perfect song to begin what is a very good album. Murphy, who has a very Bowie-esque vocal style, sings in his lower, speaker rattling register. And it's awesome.
And it definitely ain't goth.
Enjoy!

I will give this a listen, but wondered if you ever heard a great old tune recorded by hundreds probably, called "How Deep is the ocean."

It didn't ring a bell, but I did just listen to a great version by Billie Holiday. You just can't go wrong with her.

Oh, you had to post this right when JJ is repairing his tweeters....
I can hear the Bowie influence there, too.

@teamfreak16 -- the one that sounds almost exactly like Bowie vocally? This one??
No. Never heard it.

So quintessential 80s and Murphy was among the great voices.

Definitely one of the 80's great vocalists. I have seen Bauhaus, but I haven't been able to see him solo. A shame.
