The butterfly with transparent wings is a lepidopter about 6 cm whose scientific name is Greta oto.
The Spanish name for this strange insect is Espejitos which means small mirrors and it is rather common in Central America, from Mexico to Panama.
If he forages the flowers to harvest the nectar, he likes to lay eggs on poisonous plants whose larvae use toxins to protect themselves from predators.
The Greta oto caterpillar and butterfly have recently been published.
