Sunglasses

Do you wear them? Sunglasses, shades, light adjusting eyeglasses, baseball caps, sun bonnets(), or anything else to protect your eyes? My eyes are sensitive to sunlight, and I sneeze immediately, unless I'm wearing sunglasses. My eyes used to automatically close from the glare of sun on snow, but that I no longer have to worry about. I wear them whenever I go outdoors. They not only provide protection against the sun, but also make a fashion statement. My grandchildren wear them, too, but their eyelashes hit the lenses.

Yes, I wear them, even on days when it is overcast yet bright. My optician says the artificial lens inserted into the eye after cataract removal lacks any UV filtering qualities, so...

The sun has also been proven to be a cause of cataracts. Interesting!

I have sunglasses, but I mostly don't wear them! I can't stand having something on my face like that . . . I feel like I can't see with sunglasses . . . I will put up with the sun no matter how bright it is. Everyone thinks I'm nuts . But in recent years, I have found that wearing them makes me less recognizable . . . it's good to have when I'm trying to dodge certain people .

@DianneN I have a bunch of sunglasses I've collected over the years. Hubby asks why I don't wear any of them . I will be in big trouble if I ever need to wear real glasses !

Anyone living in the desert should wear them even in winter, the sun out this way is totally intense 90% of the time.

I've had people tell me (military families from places like MI or PA) that the sun here is much more intense than in the north east or east @DianneN since I've never been to either I can't tell for myself.

I agree. The sun causes more damage to the eyes than people realize, not to mention wrinkles from squinting!

@rebelann When it's hot, the sun appears stronger. It depends on the season and how low or high the sun sits in the sky. Of course, being that much further south makes it seem so much hotter. My opinion.

My older son's mother in law buys designer sunglasses and has her optician replace the lenses with prescription ones. If necessary, I'd do that, too.

I always intend to wear sunglasses, but manage to "lose them" rather quickly. I will get prescription sunglasses this year with my flexible spending. I might find that to be a better solution.

@DianneN yes especially when people have made silly remarks like "so you are a movie star" i just try and explain that bright light and sometimes much light at all makes me feel ill. only at times. and even the doctor has never explained what might cause that

I love sunglasses, it's one item I would spend some amount of money to get a good one, besides the protection it gives a certain kind of unexplainable mystique and aura.

I wear them if it is sunny at all and wear a hat of some kind each time I go out to protect against skin cancer since I have had a lot of pre-cancerous things frozen off my head and face thanks to growing up in Texas and southern California. I am lucky to keep one around for more than a year, so don't buy expensive ones.

I sneeze often in sunlight and have a hard time keeping my eyes open when sun reflects off snow. I don't my eyes are overly sensitive over it though. I wear sunglasses mostly to hide my eyes when I don't want to put any eye makeup on.

None of my family or friends sneeze or have a difficult time keeping their eyes open. I think we both must have some sensitivity to strong sunlight. Oh, I love those dark sunglasses! They are my saving grace on my early morning walks sans eye makeup. lol

My grandson has longer lashes than my granddaughter. When she was a baby, her parents had to make sure none got bent and poked her in the eye. Mine hit the lenses when I wear mascara. lol I'm glad you protect your eyes from the sun.

@DianneN i like kids and even adults with long lashes. in fact, when i see one, i stare at him or her longer, and appreciate her lashes. my lashes are not so long, but not so short too. it is just of medium length. but i cannot even put on a mascara.
