Hi it is good to know some details about your wife and your house. I agree that owning a house gives you security . We have our own house bought 21 years ago . We bought a very old house with a large garden and got the house renovated twice . It is not perfect because renovation has it's limitations but I love my house and garden
Is that your house in the picture , if so it s beautiful..

We lived in apartments until about 5 years ago - then we got our own house. My husband didn't want any more money going to "rent" because that money goes nowhere. Out here renting is very expensive . . . and so is a house mortgage. But we bought at a time where prices and interest rates were very low - we lucked out. However, this is a small house - not our dream house - and it's not in the best of areas. We are very pleased that we "own" a house though, at least it is building up equity - the values of homes have gone way up since we bought this one.

@japanesesamurai The thing is it isn't easy for everyone to qualify for such a loan/mortgage, especially with the housing market being sky high here in Southern California (compared to most of the nation). I do think it is better to own - at least your money goes into an investment - whereas renting a place makes money for someone else.

you are right.. also rent a house is a same thing as buying a house with mortgage ,after 10 years.
you will also pay same to your rental house in that period. so its better to try loan or mortgage.

I own my house and it's paid for. It's great to have no mortgage and I would never live in an apartment again.

@japanesesamurai Way to much noise, I once lived in a really nice apartment, I was on the 3rd floor. Someone on the 1st floor was a hoarder and the smell was horrendous. They got kicked out of there thankfully, you could hardly breath the smell was so bad.

yes it is one of the important necessities in life, house is not just an asset,it is a shelter..it does not matter if it is nice or not big or small as long as the people who lives their calls it HOME not a house alone,,it is only a structure

here in malaysia, we don't built our own house unless you own a land. Most of us purchase house that is on the way to build or second hand house which is cheaper.

That's my dream and goal to build my own house and for my mom. We don't own a house but we live in my mother's parent's house. Both my grandparents already passed away and we are the one who stayed in their house. I know someday my mom, aunt and my uncle will going to fight to sell the house. Good luck to us.

I agree with you. I rent so therefore I pray that we can stay here as long as we want and that our landlord will be around many years so we can stay. I would love to have owned my own place but it has not been in the cards. I am envious of you. Is that your home in the picture? It is lovely.
