Happy Black Cat day!

Here's Sonny James up and raring to say good morning to you folks. (Truth: he's wishing I would give him another snack.)
The years sure flew by since the first time I met this fella. He crept out from under our car. It was early January. Cold, so cold. Snow and ice everywhere. He needed a house. Warmth. At that time he was a baby. He looked more rat like than cat.
Eight years later, tons of fur later, you see what happened when we opened our door. Sonny has been a real love though now I think I should have named him Hoss Cartwright.

Nice looking cat. I wonder how he ended up under your car that day. Do you think someone dumped him near your house?

@RichardMeister I have wondered that. He was not the only vagrant at our doorstep. A little kitty miss showed up one day, so sweet and so um, swollen bellied. I hated to but I took her to the Animal Shelter. The folks there said she was about to 'pop.' Another time two adorable pit bull pups appeared. I called the dog catcher on them. But Sonny, little waif that he was, stayed. He wasn't breathing well so he got a Vet visit and the diagnosis of pneumonia. Vet said that the animal shelter would kill him cause they do not have money for meds. He stayed with us and grew and grew.

@RichardMeister Poor kitty. Happy trails for him/her I hope. My husband loves to tell this tale: a gorgeous orange striped kitty showed up one day. We wanted to keep him but he wasn't getting along with the rest of the tribe. My husband named him Oscar, after my husband's supervisor. We got Oscar neutered before we shipped him to a rescue organization.

@sallypup You can't keep every animal that shows up on you doorstep. Several years ago I came home with groceries and popped my trunk. I took a load in and when I came for another load out something jumped out of the trunk of my car and run underneath it. I realized it was a cat so I talked very softly to it and it came out from underneath the car. I could tell it was a well taken care of cat. I pet it a few time and it just wandered off. After that every now and then I would come out of the house and find it wait for me. I'd pet it for a bit then it would wander off. That went on for maybe a year then I never saw it again.

@RubyHawk He really isn't sick- but could get sick if he does not eat the food. So I go to the Vet and buy the expensive food for him. He will be on it until he has passed on. Urinary stones developed due to the wrong food and as you can imagine, it hurt to pass them through his system. He needs a certain PH in his food to keep such nasty things developing. At this point Sonny is healthy and fat!

@nanette64 You got it. Especially this morning as I was trying to eat my oatmeal. He just would not leave me alone! (I'm not sure what he found fascinating cause I had almond milk in the cereal.)

@DeborahDiane Thanks. Sonny boy is very timid. He's not much into going out of the house.

@sallypup - That makes him the perfect pet ... not always dashing outside or getting lost.

@JudyEv Sonny was such a nervous little guy. It was about 2 am before we got him settled then he figured out where I was, trying to sleep in a warm bed. He zipped over and snuggled in. The next morning I realized his breathing was horrible so I got him to the Vet and discovered he had pneumonia.

@sallypup We found a tiny kitten outside our house once. He was black too. He had a sore leg but once he'd had a drink he was still trying to play with a leaf. We took him to the vet but the leg was broken and we were advised to put him down. It was sad especially when he had such spirit.

Hi Sonny. It's Mildred the Cat. Nice to meet you. My beginnings started similar to yours, not under a car but at a yard sale and free for the taking. My mom says I'm the best bargain she ever found. She definitely did luck out finding me! I'm sending cheers and high fives your way.

@LindaCPearson Hi Mildred. You sure are one pretty lady. I like to hide under the bed or in a bathroom cupboard when scary things happen, like when Mom insists on having other humans over. I think I was first hiding under a neighbor's icky house and then got so cold that I went under Mom's car and sometimes stared up into her house window cause it was warm in there! Anyway, Mom thinks I might have been hiding in the neighbor's crawl space. I sure had a sickness in my chest. Take care, pretty girl.

Hoss, oh yes I remember him! He was that very petite, middle brother, who rode a sway-backed horse on 'Bonanza!'

@kobesbuddy Oh you are funny. Hoss was not very petite. He was as round as he was tall. Stout, I guess you could say. His poor horse was sway backed from the weight!!

@sallypup The camera had to shoot from quite a distance away, to get Hoss's entire picture!
