It’s time for another countdown. What’s that crazy hillbilly got up her sleeve this time? This one is inspired by one of the classic skits on Saturday Night Live, the legendary “More Cowbell!” scene, where Will Farrell went over the top in playing cowbell on the Blue Öyster Cult classic “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper.” Since then, “more cowbell” has become a popular culture catchphrase.
So..........
Why not count down ten songs that have cowbell in them?
And, before you ask, yes, there are websites that feature lists of songs that have cowbell on them, either completely through the song or at one point. So, if you want to play along, look up the “more cowbell” songs and list your own hall of famers.
Hope you’ll enjoy this.
Here’s a Spade Cooley song called “Cowbell Polka”....which features no cowbell. (The fiddles are plucked to sort of resemble a cowbell.)

Remember the Chamber Bros "Time" beat the heck out of a cowbell.

No “Time” for that one, but you will approve of one of the songs on the list.

Thanks for sharing. Loved this. You got me interested and I found these crazy people just by looking for cowbell songs.

That's where this came from. Here's the entire skit:
When rock band Blue Oyster Cult records “(Don’t Fear) the Reaper,” producer Bruce Dickinson (Christopher Walken) insists Gene Frenkle (Will Ferrell) play more cowbell. With Chris Kattan, Chris Parnell, Horatio Sanz and Jimmy Fallon. [Season 25, 2000]

From what I've read, Blue Oyster Cult loved the sketch. This should be fun!
