Room hunting!

Just checked out an apartment today. It was $575/month for what was almost equivalent to the size of a prison cell. You have to duck down in order to get to the front door, and aren't allowed to have a stove/oven... so it's basically a place for those who don't cook. I'm doing what I can to live minimalistically, because I want to use my extra money and savings to travel to other places and countries to do mural work. But by god, it is so difficult to find a place that fits the bill. I'm going to see if the guy renting it out would be open to negotiation because I will NOT take a place like this for over $450/month. This place is more like renting out a room than anything. What about you guys, do any of you struggle to find cheap living spaces?

That's ridiculous. That's only $100 less than what my boyfriend and I pay for a huge 2-bedroom apartment! (Although I realize we got a good deal on our apartment, most this size would be over $800 a month, which is why I'm willing to put up with crappy neighbors. People are always telling us we should move, but there's no way we could find anything else this cheap around here.) If you're trying to save money, I would probably keep looking and maybe consider renting a room from someone, if you could find one for a reasonable price. Then maybe at least you'd have access to a stove if you're allowed to use their kitchen.

I used my negotiation skills and I managed to talk the guy down to $450/month. Really it's just a single guy kind of place... but there's no way it's worth more than 450.. even that is pushing it

I thik renting out a room is the cheapest option. Apartments are crazy expensive here too, studios are usually upwards of 700-800 a month.

Yeah I'm definitely looking for efficiency... really it's more about my mission as an artist than having a comfortable living. I'm sacrificing what I can to make what I want in life a possibility.
