Inside world folklore there are many definitions for a ghost, basically, the belief is a soul has come back from the dead and appears to the living. There are many forms of ghosts like a poltergeist a spirit which can manifest objects, a revenant is a someone who passed away and comes back for vengeance or some other reason to hunt down the living, the revenant is visible ghosts. Wraiths come from Scots culture and the belief says they seem moments after someone dies, bogeyman varies from place to place and is a creature made to frighten children. Often places are referred as haunted by area residents they say someone lived there for example and now that the person is dead her spirit is still there as a ghost and the place is haunted. There are even ghost hunters, they are paid to investigate some places and they use proper objects to hunt the ghosts down. After the job is done they show pictures with ghost images wandering around the house and recordings of furniture making cracking noises, objects moving around the house mysteriously. They also investigate the reason the ghost is still wandering among the living, there are many ghost hunter histories and some become movies based in real life which is the case of Ed and Lorraine Warren. Many people create Halloween costumes and decorate houses with a ghost theme, the ghost becomes a standard for popular Halloween culture, while others take it seriously as a job daily hunting down ghosts as a ghost hunter.

People do seem very interested in spirits which haunt dwellings.
