while talking to an older relative, she mentioned that she followed my advice about packing a change of clothes in her hand-carried luggage.
she was able to change into comfortable house clothes when she got to their destination because the big checked-in luggage arrived a day or two later.
this was 2 or 3 three years ago and i honestly don't remember telling her that.
but i guess it is possible that i did.
i read a lot and probably shared that tip because it stood out to me.
it's just that i'm always surprised when people give me credit for something.
have you ever experienced delayed luggage when you got to your destination?
did you have to borrw or buy toiletries, underwear, clothes, shoes, etc to use and wear while waiting for it?

yes, i think you learn quickly when you travel frequently, especially if they're business trips.
how many days does it take to receive your luggage?

@hereandthere Usually it arrived the day after and was brought to our home (if the travel was to go back home) or to our hotel. I remember that in one occasion we waited 5 days and it was not funny.

Yeah, one time lost my bag. Not fun and then another time put my military health records in my friends bag. That was my fault but we both forgot and he was getting out of the military. He had to mail them to me and I had to make an excuse to not get in trouble as why I did not have them. Just told them its airports fault.
I am not even sure why I put them in his bag. Not like they take much room. I think he was just my boss while we served and he thought he was helping me keep them safe.

@hereandthere Oh yeah was like 30 days though. I did not care was just my military uniforms. Gave me a excuse like no other. lol Unfortunately my leave was 30 days so got it back by the time it was to fly again. Funny how that worked.

she said she's thankful she remembered because their luggage was delayed. i mentioned it just to be on the safe side, but never expected the situation to actually happen.

i'm thinking maybe it was because of an article i read about a traveler that spent 3 days wearing the same clothes.

@hereandthere a week or so later. That guy was sent by IBM to work in Korea or Japan at the time, the airline ended up giving him $200 compensation (so that he could go buy some socks and underwears temporarily. It was cold there too. Considering how thingsare very expensive there, he only managed to buy a few important items from that $200 from what he told us.)

@JudyEv yes, i just learned from ladyduck that the airline will reimburse you. having delayed luggage is okay if you were flying home, but highly stressful if it's work-related!

@hereandthere It was only a day. Vince lost his for a week once but didn't realise the airline would buy whatever he needed - which was really a suit, tie and good shoes for a conference. He shopped very frugally but learnt later he could have just bought what he needed.

although this is for flights, i think it's applicable to long distance bus travel, too, because the bigger luggage are either put above you or under the bus.

@ridingbet yes, most people do that. but with airlines, some people experience delayed luggage. in ladyduck's case, the longest was 5 days, so it's better to have clothes in your smaller bag/hand-carried luggage, too, to be safe. on the other hand, there are also frequent travelers who have never experienced delayed luggage at all all these years, like thelma.

Once I recall my checked in baggage was missing.
A similar bag was doing the rounds, so I knew there should have been a mix up.
I notified the airline of it and I got my one later.
Yeah, a change of clothes will come in handy.
One young guy wished me and was talking to me as if he knew me.
Then I told him I cannot recollect him.
He then told me he got a good break in job after taking heed of my tips when he had met me earlier! siva

bags of the same color, size and brand tend to get mixed up, especially if they're black.
it's like you planted a seed and it grew.

I wonder what was the tip you shared to her, can you pass it unto me, he he, so that when I travel I can use the proper way of dealing that luggage too.
Sometimes I forget one but not really a big thing especially when I go to the city because there are many grocery stores where I can buy toothpaste, bathsoap, shampoo among others.

i told her to put some clothes in her hand-carried luggage in case the checked-in luggage is delayed.
yes, toiletries is not a big deal since you can buy them at sari-sari stores, mini-marts, convenience stores, and supermarkets. but if you have allergies or sensitive skin, it's better to bring your own.

I hope that will not happen to me when travelling. I always put clothes in my hand carry luggage for changing just in case my check-in luggage will be delayed or a soup or any food would be landing on my clothes. It is nice to hear people following our advices.

I cannot remember if my luggage was delayed or not but the tip was a good one and she remembered it and listened to you. I do know people that they lost their luggage and took a while to find it.
