I was, in fact, listening to this very song a few days ago, when I got the idea for this series, which is simply songs with "sister" in the title. We are at #8: "Sisters of Mercy" by Leonard Cohen. What can I say? This one, from Cohen's 1968 debut album, Songs of Leonard Cohen, was not a hit song. It was not, as far as I know, released as a single. However, one of my all-time favorite bands, goth legends The Sisters of Mercy, named themselves after this song. A very prolific songwriter, Cohen claimed that "Sisters of Mercy" is the only song he ever wrote in one sitting. It was penned in Edmonton, Canada, during a massive snowstorm. The singer had met two young female hitchhikers that had nowhere to go, and invited them to his room, where they instantly fell asleep. As the girls slept, Cohen wrote "Sisters of Mercy" for them. The song was featured in director Robert Altman's 1971 film, McCabe & Mrs. Miller, and was covered by pop star Dion in 1968. I've linked to a live performance, filmed in Amsterdam. R.I.P. Leonard. Thank you for the music. (Info verified by Wikipedia)

Hell ya, bit of Johnny at the start. Pretty awesome, kind of like a lullaby also. Pretty amazing how many different styles they are and like most except what mainstream society says. How weird is that

I have a hard time listening to mainstream music these days. I hate to sound like an old man, but that stuff is garbage.

@teamfreak16 Indeed buddy, not sure how people do it, how they get anything out of it other than my friends would like this. I cannot even go that far either.

If you do have it, that's pretty impressive keeping an album that long.

Reminds me of Leonard's other songs, the 80s goth band Sisters of Mercy, and also "Sister of Mercy" by the 80s band The Thompson Twins. My head is so full of music stuff, lol

I love The Sisters of Mercy. Andrew might be a jackass, but he has written some great songs.

Trouser Press said that the Sisters named themselves after "An order of cut the crap Nuns." Naming themselves after the song makes more sense.
