Where do you start?

I was looking at my apartment thinking, how am I going to get this done? You guys know my mom died 2 1/2 years ago, and I have a lot of her stuff that I wanted to keep. I streamlined everything, but basically have nowhere to put it other than cardboard boxes. See, I don't even own a dresser, so there is no storage space. Then my grandmother put herself in an assisted living facility to get away from my uncle (that way she didn't have to say she couldn't take it anymore). She has sent me a lot that I have to go through, although she did give me her old hope chest, and that helps. Now that I have lost 25 pounds most of my clothes don't fit. I have always given them to Goodwill, but since I need storage I had hoped to get a little for them at a consignment shop (so I could buy a dresser). But I don't know for sure where I should go, and a part of me feels bad for not just donating them. There a few other things that need fixing, but my apartment manager is not in any rush to fix them (it has been 4 months). I looked around today, and was like, where do I start? Everything is neat, but my bedroom has all the stuff that needs dealing with. I guess I should just suck it up. However, I am grateful for everything that has gone right!

I usually just sit and go through one thing at a time and even if I only go through one today, well that is one less than before.

I just start. It doesn't matter where. It all has to be dealt with. I'm glad things have gone right for you.

Congrats on losing weight! That's awesome! I have not had any luck at consignment shops, but then again once I'm done with clothing it's usually way too worn to try to sell. You might be able to find a cheap dresser on Craigslist or Facebook.

It seems daunting to try to sell by consignment shops. Thanks for the suggestion of where to look for a dresser. And thanks for the congratulations!

I think that your plan to put your clothes that are too big in a consignment shop so that you can earn enough to buy a dresser is a wonderful idea! Watch for something good and used, we picked up a chest of drawers, which had a ton of storage space, for our son when he went off to university, and we paid next to nothing for it. Which was great, because that dresser moved with him a few times during the course of the 4 years and when he finished his last year we asked him to put it out at the street, but someone saw him doing that and offered him a little cash for it. So you just never know. Everyone needs these and they last a long time. Wish that I were there to help you.....even just to get it started.

It is hard if you have little storage space. If you have always donated in the past you have no need to feel badly now about trying to get something for your clothing. There is a 'freeloaders' website in Australia where people give away stuff they don't need. Do you have a site like that where you might find an old dresser?

My area I use Craigslist and over the years quite a bit has left and other items have ended up at my house. I bartered for a dresser, so ended up getting rid of to large clothes and getting a dresser for them.

Have you checked online? There are places that offer used furniture free, you only have to go there and get it.

Happy for you that things are going right and I hope that you'll be able to find a dresser that fits your budget. We have a local Facebook page here where people sell and donate all types of things. Do you have a FB site like this?

You should be grateful for all that has gone right. Personally, I would bring as much as possible to a consignment shop, and donate the remainder.
