Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator

Come to find out, my husband was not getting a pacemaker at all. He was getting an ICD--implantable cardioverter defibrillator.
Simple terms, it does work as a pace maker, but if he goes into Afib it will deliver a small shock to his heart to make it beat regularly again.
I am very late getting here. . . not because of problems with my husband or his procedure. We arrived to check in at ten this morning. He was scheduled at 1:30. There were ten scheduled patients, getting things like heart cath, stents, angiograms, etc.
What was not counted on was the heart team had three heart attack emergency situations they had to deal with, before they could do the other procedures.
You cannot schedule for an emergency.
I will tell you more about our day, tomorrow some time. Yes, they kept Bob overnight. We were not told about that either.
On my way home, I stopped for groceries and gas.
Princess is questioning me. What did you do with Dad?
He will be dismissed at noon tomorrow, provided all goes well. They tell me he was the perfect patient.
I am thankful that is done.

That is awesome news! Tony had his surgery this morning as well, nothing like your husband, Tony had a growth removed from his nose.

If I had known it was for overnight I could have planned ahead and stayed at the hospital. I did not have meds and the cat needed to be fed, and some stuff at home, so I could not stay.

I think he is in safe hands now. In India, this has not been introduced so far.

I guess this is pretty common. It is like a small computer in the chest.

The good news is, I was supposed to take my sister to an appointment Wednesday (today) in a totally different town, but her daughter will do it. Yes, he was starving. We will go eat whatever he wants today.

That is the plan. I know they will do some type of xray to see that it is placed correctly.

Best wishes for him to get back on his feet. I have seen that people go back to active regular lives.
You can have a rest now

The doctor will want him off work about a week. We are also heading into a break for our Thanksgiving.

I am glad they did keep him overnight in case of complications. Sounds like this ICD is better then the pacemaker! What condition does he have that he needs this?

I know you packed an overnight bag for your husband just in case it was needed. It was a good thing you did. I'm glad he is okay. You will be relieved to have him home.

I wonder why you were not told he would need to stay overnight. Seems someone dropped the ball. Glad he is doing well.
