I was talking to my Mom this morning and she remembered a very funny childhood incident. She says, that what occurred that day proved people can fly! She was visiting her Aunt and would spend her summers on her Aunts farm. One day she was crossing a field, when she heard a very odd noise behind her, she was about 10 years old at the time and a very skinny young girl. So, she heard this strange noise behind her and turned to see a very large bull pawing the ground and snorting, with its eyes aimed right at her! Before she could do anything, it started to charge at her, the field was quite large, but in the distance, she spotted a few trees. She ran for those trees with all she had in her! To when she got to one of the trees scramble up it and sit on a branch! Once the bull had moved on and my Mom had calmed down, she realised she was stuck!  She couldn't get back down the tree! And she had to wait for her cousins to find her, when they did find her, they couldn't believe she had got up that tree! They needed a ladder to get to her! The branch she was sitting on was so high off the ground, they needed a ladder to get to her! And that is when the one cousin, said to my Mom, "I guess people can fly, because that is the only way you got up this tree!" Well, like my Mom says, it was either that, or she walked on air! Photo is mine.

What a story!!! Fear would make me fly, too! I suppose adrenaline kicks in when we face fear and become superhuman.

Yes, by the sounds of it there are moments we become superhuman if needs be.

I think she got a little help from the bull. They do say that when our adrenaline is high that we can do amazing feats and your mom proved the point. It's funny now but I'm sure that when she saw the bull she wasn't laughing.

If I was being chased by an angry bull, I would someone manage to learn how to fly too! What a cool story told by your mom!

that is adrenaline rush if one can climb a tree that seems not accessible to others

That is an amazing story really makes you wonder if it was adreneline or a guardain angel helping her. I dream very often I can fly.

I like to think it was a bit of both. I used to dream I could fly when I was young. :)

Maybe fear is all we need to make us fly! I've heard similar stories about people being able to jump over a very high wall or fence when they got chased by a dog.

fear does seem to be the incentive for great feats

It kinda reminds me of stories about ppl who had to move cars in emergency situations, sometimes when we really *need* to, we act more intensely then under normal circumstances (like an angry bull;P). The interesting thing is, when we realize we could do something all along, then that can become a tool...and, we can become something more then what we once thought we were, or we realize that we are more then we thought we were.

Hmmm....that superhuman burst of energy :) . But, once the danger has passed and that burst of energy dissipates, would we be able to do that again...? But it does make us realise we are capable of much. :)

@bluesa actually, I think we could be capabale of that even if the danger is passed, because the deciding factor is of course mere motivation (in this case, fear). Like, the bull, or fear of the bull, was motivation, everything else was the same, and it was always there. That's one of the things in martial arts, you are trying to discipline your mind, and your body to follow your mind...the body of course does not want to follow, but, we discipline the body-and that is why, a lot of martial arts, when they did not serve military function, still had the function of meditation-as you can see I am still attempting to articulate that in my own life;P.

@HebrewGreekStudies I really need to consider martial arts. But, yes with training and discipline, I think we could do more. You are doing better than I ;P

maybe your mother had fly because of adrenaline rush. Maybe people could to that like jumping to a very high fence only to left thinking how they'd do that impossible thing.

Yes, it was definitely adrenalin that helped her accomplish that.

When you're in a panic I think you can climb extremely high up without realising.

I think so too, because otherwise I don't know how else she got up that tree.

Made me think of cats which after running from dogs, found themselves stuck on top of some trees and couldn't get down later. Your poor mom! Her survival instinct was incredible. (I heard similar cases, where people ran from bulls/aggressive dogs, end up jumping over very high fences or climbed certain poles which no human being could do in normal situations.)

@bluesa I love that story. After all those years that went by did they still think she flew up to that branch to get away from the bull. Where did the bull come from?
