Why do we repeat our mistakes in spite of knowing ? ...

Repeat the same mistakes again and again ..

I have seen this happen with myself and others around me . We tend to commit certain mistakes again and again. at times knowingly or at other times we are led to it. I have done this several times knowing that I may have to pay the price for it , but that did not stop me from going ahead and committing the same mistake again ...I wonder why some people are driven to it ? Is this what is called Karma, Destiny or is it plain human weakness ?

Even the ancient Romans said that "errare humanum est" that means "To err is human", but they also added " sed in errore perseverare est diabolicum."that means but to persist in error is diabolical. So we should at least try to remember our mistakes and to stop doing them.

@LadyDuck Yes that is the best course to take ..We should try and learn from our mistakes at least the third or fourth time if not the second time !

@kiran8 I fully agree the fifth time we should try to have it done right.

We are not infallible, we are humans, therefore, we tend to commit mistakes, either knowingly or unknowingly. We cannot be alert all the time due to one reason or the other, we start taking some of things for granted and we make mistakes and I am not an exception.

@kiran8 Yes, taking things for granted could cause us trouble. We go for wishful thinking and when it does not turn into reality, we feel bad.

@dpk262006 True, it could be even people, at times we take relationships and their people for granted, more so when they are close to us , can have its own repercussions

@dpk262006 Yes thats what I feel too. Most of us tend to take too many things for granted and learn our lesson only when things begin to go wrong

Sometimes it needs to strike us really hard before we learn our lesson

Absolutely so...I remember a time when I made the same mistake thrice with the same negative results . Now when I look back I see how my mind worked at that time without analysing and questioning

I think it's because we still have a tiny hope that the outcome would be different and it's worth trying again. I think very few people, if any, would deliberately want to repeat the mistake especially if it had costed them heavily the first time.

@cahaya true , other than hoping to rectify our past mistakes I guess the second time you take it up as a challenge to make it right .

In my own opinion, its not a karma, destiny or human weakness, it is simply because we are human. We commit mistake and commit that mistake again. Its the nature of our being a human.

It's difficult to answer the question. I used to repeat that quite often. In the long run the mistakes can be reduced as I am sure God watches me. I have learned the dos and the don'ts.

@yanzalong The general idea is that as we grow older we become wiser and are able to use our experience to study a situation , so end up making fewer mistakes.

In my opinion, everything goes according to a plan programmed as per our deeds., Nobody can escape from it. Can we change a programme fed to a computer? We can not. But, it is only the programmer who can. Here comes the role of God/Almighty whatever you may call it.

@shivamani10 I will not question the faith or belief . But as human beings dont we have any role at all ?

Sometimes it is not really intentional; just natural that we make mistakes repeatedly.

I think we have that inner voice in our heads that tell us it will all be ok to do again. I wish I could stop making the same mistakes, and a lot of times I do, but other times, not so much.

@misunderstood_zombie Making mistakes without genuinely Knowing is ok but there are times when we go ahead and do things even when your inner voice is screaming against it, have done this to regret later
