Time for another song with ‘kangaroo’ in the title or lyrics. This one is Kangaroo Court by Capital Cities. A ‘kangaroo court’ came about early in Australia’s history. Someone suspected of a crime would be tried there and then by whoever happened to be around or who had a vested interest in the case. Often there would be no hard-and-fast evidence of any wrongdoing. Rough justice indeed. And now a few more facts about kangaroos. Little joeys spend about six weeks in the pouch before they start popping their heads out. When first born, they are blind and without fur, about the size of a jellybean. They claw their way up to the pouch. The doe licks the fur to try to make it easier for him. Once in the pouch they find a teat which swells once in the mouth to keep them secure. When they start to get a bit for the pouch you sometimes see the legs and tail poking out rather than the head. I’ve tried to catch this in my photo. And look how big her pouch is! Soon, the joey won’t be allowed back in the pouch but will continue to drink from the mother by standing in front and poking its head in the pouch. Did you know kangaroos don't sweat? When hot they lick their forearms. The evaporation of the moisture helps them to cool down.

You wouldn't think those legs could fit in the pouch would you?

You're up to 5 without having had to resort to the lesser known marsupials. I'm impressed.

I'm halfway there. And I found one that John and Scott had never heard of. That means it must be VERY obscure.

If any alien from space saw that pic of yours, IT would be horrified, tried to figure out why there was an octopus on land with 7 limbs! Creepy! (God must have created kangaroo in one of his humorous moods. The part about the joey was real funny!)

I guess to an alien it would seem very strange. Not sure what part about the joey is funny but I'll be pleased if I've made you smile.

@YrNemo That's how they drink from the mother once they're too big to go in the pouch any more.

@JudyEv God in heaven. The joey really did that to its mother? What a posture!

You're welcome. Some of the songs have been a bit strange but at least they mention kangaroos.

Kangaroos don't sweat? That's interesting. But it makes sense as it must be a burning hell inside that thing.

Very interesting facts about kangaroos! I was wondering why the legs are sticking out instead of the head when I first saw the picture.

I know little about Kangaroos and this is some really interesting information. Yes, her pouch is huge! Do they have more than one at a time? Good song, strange video.

There have been cases of twin kangaroos but it's very rare. Regarding the pouch - I'm sure they get gravel rash on their tummies sometimes when they go under the fences.

Sometimes the tail is flapping out too. And when the little one first goes into the pouch, the pouch is being punched every which way as he tries to get himself right way up. And eventually the head pops out. It's funny to watch.

The only Joey that I remember was the one that used to beat up Sylvester the cat in the Warner Brothers cartoons when Sylvester thought that a mouse morph into a giant mouse. I have heard of kangaroo courts from the old school sports teams when a player broke a team rule in baseball.

All baby marsupials are called joeys. It's a strange name isn't it? I don't know how it came about.

I had heard the term Kangroo Court but didn't know the story behind it. Wow, you were able to get that close to a kangaroo? Is it tame?
