Home from some great music, and can you believe I'm going to ruin the memories by pulling out a bubblegum song? Fortunately, JJ gouged his ears out after yesterday's song and got a hearing aid, so he can quickly and conveniently turn it off for today's song from the world of bubblegum/teenybopper pop that I actually....tolerate? Think is okay? Like?? Yeah, I like this one.
#4: One Bad Apple - Osmonds
I grew up in the era of Donny Osmond teenyboppers, but I never was one. Having said that, there were three things that pretty much everyone knew about the Osmonds: their teeth, they were Mormons, and Donny liked purple.
What a lot of people on Napster and You Tube do not know is that this song IS NOT THE JACKSON FIVE. Actually, according to Picky Wedia, the song's writer, George Jackson (who also wrote Bob Seger's hit "Old Time Rock and Roll"), did write this for the Jackson Five....but they opted to record "I Want You Back" instead.
That turned out to be pretty good for both parties. The Jackson Five went on to monumental success, and this was the Osmond Brothers' biggest hit, going to number one and selling over a million copies.
After the teenybopper fad died away, Donny, to his credit, became a "serious" performer. He has won accolades for his lead role in the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. He and his wife even have a line of home furnishings they sell.
There were a million bad apples in bubblegum music history, but this wasn't one of them.

Oh how I knew this one was coming! Did you know one bad apple don't spoil the whole bunch?

This is not a favorite bubblegum song but I really liked some of them.

I love (some) bubblegum pop, but I must admit, Donny's high-pitched vocals on this one makes my toes curl. I used to like the Osmonds (back in the late '90s/early '00s when Donny and Marie had a daytime talk show) but I have a hard time stomaching them now that I'm older.
