A litttle over a hour ago, on this warm afternoon, I've had my 6th swim lesson with Rachel at the pool. Although I could've worn my spring jacket instead of my winter coat and gloves in 50-degree weather, I'm glad it's a bit warmer than it had been in the past couple of days.
Today we've returned to the front stroke once again. She wanted me to make it to a full lap. I came so close of doing it and just missed it by a few strokes. She also showed me how to pull the water back from me as I continued to ork on my breathing and moving my arms. I also used the kickboard to make it to a full lap by practicing it--and once again, I came close to it, too. I would say I'm almost there in my opinion.
Then we practiced on both kind of backstrokes. She wanted me to do two full laps in the leisure pool--and I was about to do it. Progress! Then we moved onto the elementary backstroke--something we haven't done in 1.5 weeks--and worked on them. I did one full lap on it and two half-laps (one to the lifeguard chair and back the other way). I came pretty close on honing in on that one.
So tomorrow I'll be practicing the front stroke after water aerobics class. My goal is to make it one full lap without stopping. On Friday, I'll be practicing the backstroke. My goal is two full laps (or 1.5 laps) without stopping. Next monday, I'll be practicing the front stroke and the elementary backstroke. My goal is one full lap of each stroke both ways. My next lesson with her would be a week from today.
On a side note, Rachel had informed me that she had just accepted a new job next month. It would be a good opportunity for her. Since she doesn't when her start time woluld be, she would be to teach me for a few more weeks. (And this would lead right into my winter break.) Right around that time with my final week of lessons, I would have to decide to continue with a new instructor or end my lessons. Right now, I'm undecided. I would love to learn the breaststroke, the butterfly and the front crawl between now and then. Of course, this also depends on what type of mild winter weather we're having as well.
So I'll keep you posted if I hear anything new from her too.

You are slowly but surely getting your water wings.

Practice makes perfect, I'm not a very good swimmer unlike my eldest son who finished a full advanced course including rescue.

@KristenH he wants to be a ship officer so he took up and just graduated in Marine transport 4 year course that's why their swimming there is more advanced plus other requirements like safety on land and sea or SOLAS that he completed

@Courtlynn True. I'll find out more next week before my lesson. She mentioned something about a university--so maybe a swim coach?

It is wnderful that you have decided to learn to swim, I really think it is very important that everyone knows how to swim. I have been swimming since I was 5 years old, my favorite is the side stroke and freestyle.
