Nowadays, there's a trend of love-arranged marriages in India. You can't just get married even if you love someone. You have to take care of a hell lot of things there on to make it a arranged marriage.

Things are changing fast and the number of love marriages are increasing. I agree that traditional families still prefer to play a role , by getting youngsters from the same Community meet and expect them to fall in love with each other , may be even coax them do so.

@NKrocks Absolutely , the idea is that the parents and elders are wise and take care with all the relevant and required details. Probably it did work well when there was joint family system, girls were docile and not highly educated and financially independent and the couple we're totally dependent on the family.

@kiran8 Why only traditional families? Matrimony sites have most people from the metros and they specifically mention same caste as a preference.

@kiran8 Absolutely. We are a society where we will judge a person several times to make him/her as your friend but a life partner is finalised after a few meetings and just after considering wealth, status, income etc. Isn't it Ridiculously true?

@MALUSE I would have written 10 pages but I doubt whether each one has the time to go through all of that.

@NKrocks Are you serious? I thought that it happens in the underdeveloped areas? Anyway if love comes at after marriage has taken place then that is good.

@aureliah Oh that's an important issue too. Women mostly have been at the receiving end. The love in most cases happens post marriage. Before marriage, it's meeting your to-be spouse for 2-3 times and talking only formally. Even highly educated people with good corporate jobs have been succumbing to the practice.

How often do people divorce? Do those extra steps help have a better marriage experience? Over here in USA anyone can get married whenever and half of most marriages end in divorce.

A survey says that India tops the list of highest number of women suffering from psychiatry. What's better? A Divorce or living a psychiatry patient life.

Hi my friend, as what you have said that you can't just get married even if you love someone, does that mean that love in your country has no value when it comes to choosing whom we should want to marry with? I bet any marriage wouldn't turn out happy if love is missing in the first place.

Things are changing. Not everybody go through this pain; some people have liberal values. Thus, few lucky people get to marry their love. People fall in love after marriage

Yes it is absolutely right. To make it an arranged marriage we have to take care even of the minute things. They should belong to the same caste, have the equal financial status, the boy should have his own house. The boy should have a good job and good salary. In love marriages also we have to see the same criteria. With only love, life won't move forward smoothly.
