A Shocking Sight

Hi all, I was out of town for a few days after Thanksgiving, I trust you all had a wonderful holiday. Mine was great as well.
Friday morning my husband and I were going to take a short trip to go see my brother for the weekend. I had run to the gas station to fill up the tank and as I was getting ready to leave I saw a truck go around the corner and a cop following with it's lights on. The truck pulled over as did the cop car and two more cop cars pulled up one at the front of the truck and two behind. Then the shocking sight occurred. All the cops got out of their cars and pulled their guns and pointed them towards the truck. That freaked me out and I got out of there right away.
I went to the bank and pulled into the drive thru to get a bit more cash. Nothing looked astray until I pulled up to the window and there was a big closed sign there. Really?? How strange. They should have been opened. So I figured I could do what I wanted with a credit card as we were ready to leave.
I went home and as the truck that got pulled over was about 4 houses down from my home I drove right past it. The driver was sitting on the curb handcuffed and a cop standing over him and the other cops searching his truck.
I went home picked up my hubby and away we went for our weekend away. We had to pass the bank on the way out of town and there were at least 7 cop cars in the parking lot and that yellow crime scene tape across the bank doors. Oh my they had been robbed. I wondered if the truck that got pulled over was the bank robbers.
On Sunday before we came home I went online to see if I could find some news. And sure enough The scene I had witnessed was the cops catching the bank robbers. Amazing the bank is like two blocks from where the cops captured the robbers. Apparently there were two of them. The money was recovered and they robbed the bank without guns from what I have read.
Needless to say I have never ever seen cops pull their guns and I was at the bank just moments after they had been robbed.
This is the 3rd time that bank has been robbed since I have lived here. I think they really should get a security man to work inside. They don't have one. I also think that because we are in a small town in the middle of the corn fields that those who would do something like this must think it's easy prey.
Apparently a customer who was still in their car saw the man run out, and notified the police right away and that's why they caught them only a couple of blocks from the bank. The other two times they were robbed the never caught them.
I'm glad they caught the men and for me it was shocking to see this take place.

I really think they should, they have no men working there all women, so it has to be time for a security guard.

@fishtiger58 Surely the robbers know that there are only women and no security guard.

That's crazy and kind of scary you're lucky that you made it out okay. That's why I'm glad that all my banking is prepaid and I don't have to go to a real bank I'll just go to Walmart. Or any ATM for that matter. Everything else I do online or on my phone

@thislittlepennyearns Yikes bears, I would have to have one too. No bears where I live nor wild hogs.

A long time ago, when I lived in south Florida, I actually witnessed a shootout between the police and some bank robbers. It was pretty crazy! Lots of bullets flying everywhere, and surprisingly--even thought they weren't that far of a distance apart from each other--neither the cops nor the robbers hit each other! I guess in the heat of the moment when the adrenaline is pumping hard you forget all about aiming straight and true and instead you just unload your clip and hope one of the bullets finds its target. It would have actually been quite comical had it not been a real life event.

@fishtiger58 I got to listen to gunfire all night when I took my son camping this weekend. Apparently, some yahoos decided to shoot their semi-automatic weapons all night long on Friday (we were camping in a state park, so they must have been shooting on their private land adjacent to the park). The whole time I was thinking, how in the world can they afford all that ammo they are wasting? lol

@moffittjc yes they do but I didn't actually go on the range I was in the building, but you have to park and then it's very loud.

That would be a scary scene, I've never see a cop at work except when going after speeders on the highway. I'm glad the thief got caught, I often wonder why anyone would steal money from a bank and I think they must know they will be caught....fingers crossed they won't be caught? Makes no sense, I feel like saying get a job if you need money....

It doesn't make sense to me either. Lets see commit a crime spend time in jail, nope I will never understand crime and why people engage in it.

@fishtiger58 I just remembered one night in the summer voices out my window woke me up. Two teens had searched my car for cash I'm guessing (I never leave anything in my car and now its locked every night) They walked to my neighbor and I called the cops, the kids ran away because someone else noticed them and the police never found them. My neighbor was mad at me for calling the cops, ( told me after the cops talked to both of us, they found a credit card in her car too) she wanted a new computer and left her old one in the car hoping it would be stolen...What a piece of work that neighbor was, thankfully she moved...

@PainsOnSlate Wait what? She left her computer in her car hoping it would be stolen so the insurance would buy her a new one. Is she insane. Yea a piece of work for sure. That's so nuts.

Deborah mentioned that she hasn't seen a security guard in a bank in a long time. But she's right I haven't either. Doesn't make any sense.

Wow, that must have been weird. I saw a guy who had just try to rob a 7/11 cuffed and outside one time. Another time, I just missed someone stealing someone elses truck. That was out West though not in my area at all.

good thing you weren't a bit earlier with your errands or you might have been in the bank while it was being robbed. I'm glad they were caught too!

@fishtiger58 Most robbers don't.. trust me I have to go through robbery training every year.. and this year I"ve gone through it 3 times with my job changes. Most bank robbers are just desperate and are just trying to get away with it. They don't want the mess of weapons which will get them in even more trouble.

@katsmeow1213 I have a friend who works in the bank and she told me she is sick of getting robbed, twice since she has been working there like 3 years.

Thankfully they caught the bank robbers but it was pretty crazy that you were there to see the cops apprehend the criminals. Good thing you weren't in the bank minutes before when it was getting robbed

When you drove by the bank and thought it was strange that they were closed I figured that the ones in the truck robbed the bank and the cops found out.

It was so darn scary, I got out of there before they started shooting which I'm happy to say didn't happen.
