There have been times when I have realized that I can only do so much and leave the rest to take care of itself , but that is something else !!! Karma means action and according to the theory of Karma every action gets a reaction depending on the quality and intensity of your action , which one can understand since it has been explained by other learned people as well. But destiny which is also related to karma , is far more complicated from what perceive . It is something you cannot run away from My question is how far can one believe in the theory that your life and actions are predetermined and you cannot escape your destiny. So, of what use is your Karma if it cannot overcome destiny ..?

Well, if life has been laid out and we have free will, then destiny can go either way. Good begets good and evil begets evil. This is where karma come in, karma was part of that destiny in the first place.

@andriaperry I agree Karma and destiny could go hand in hand except where natural calamities and unforseen often man made tragedies are concerned that destroys the lives of good people who have done no harm.

I believe more in karma than in destiny. We can influence our destiny through our actions. Do my best and accept the result with all humility is my mantra. No effort is wasted in the long run - siva

@Shiva49 Absolutely ! I am reminded of a verse from Bhagavadgeeta where Krishna compares life to ripples in a pool . Our lives too go through all these influences around us.

@kiran8 However, meeting some persons can change our lives for the better or worse. That is more of destiny - siva

I am Catholic, we are said that, when a child comes to this world, God already knows what he will decide and how his life will end, but then they pretend that we are masters of our destiny. Well, I am confused, if he already knows, I do not believe we have free will.

@LadyDuck Absolutely true ! We would be no better than robots and life would be so very boring . It is the unexpected and the unexplained that makes life interesting

@LadyDuck Most religions teach this pre determined theory of life including Hinduism although there is no substantive proof. Personally I feel that our creator is more a guiding force rather than control all our actions and make puppets out of us.

@kiran8 This is also my opinion, I do not like the idea to be only a "shape" without will.

I just watched the movie Bad Genius and Lynn, the main character, said 'Even if you don't cheat, life cheats on you anyway.' Sigh...

@sol_cee I have not seen the film , but I agree life can be seemingly unfair at times. You know I was told by my mother never to feel bad when things did not work out the way I planned or expected it to. Instead if you keep an open mind what actually happened might be better than what you expected.

That is a difficult question for me to answer. I believe in karma as well as destiny. How and when they will come is way out of my control.

Karma from what I perceive is our action , since all our actions show our mental status and attitude , it stamps our personality.Destiny is probably beyond us since we cannot control others' actions which could have an effect on our lfe.

The Bible says to treat others the way you want to be treated, and I try to follow this rule. I believe that somehow all the good and bad comes back to us, except to the evil and the rich and powerful, they seem to never suffer from karma.

I think of Karma and Destiny as something that is related to each other. I came about this in my mind and believe it to be my truth about both topics because of what I have read, watched, and also because of what I have seen from my surroundings, or in other people's lives. Karma is when you do good things, you may get a reward for it, and if you do bad things then you get punishment. So this actually is why your destiny cannot be escaped. So If you are destined to suffer in this life, then you may be paying for a previous karma. Something you did and caused before this life. No matter what you do, work hard, be good, bad luck seems to be so clingy to you. That was Karma at work from your previous actions. And if you now do better, do good and cope with the sheet life threw at you (because of what you did before) then your suffering will slowly decline until the next life (?) Same case for those who did great - like its always been said in eastern culture right? When you are so blessed or lucky, people will ask you, you must have been a saint in your previous life, or you must have saved your country in your previous life... you are reaping what you sow. So for me this is what Karma is and how it is closely tied with someone's destiny. It is even related to the karma of your children, and so on. if your grandparents are good people, your family may also be blessed and will have an easy life more than others.

Some futures are pushed onto us by our karma
How does destiny relate to karma? Karma creates destiny. Destiny does not create karma. When you have no more karma, you make your own destiny then.

True , Karma is what creates destiny except at times when nature or our creator upsets the balance ...

@kiran8 I think there are two types of destiny then. The Karma producing one, and our true destiny, based on God's and our soul's mission and purpose for us in this life. Once we can move past Karma's destiny, we have a chance of reaching our true destiny, or potential, or, as the bible puts it, of bearing fruit for God then, and fulfilling his plan for our life. The type of fruit that we will bear is based upon our goals, purpose, mission, gifts and talents for this life. This is our real destiny for our lives I think.

@innertalks That makes sense , what you are essentially saying is that our paths have already been drawn , but how we go about it is in our own hands ..

Yes I believe in karma and destiny.I believe if we do good to others we will also get good things in life, and if we do bad to others we will also get bad things in life. God has written our destiny before we are born and it will happen as it is, if it is good or bad we have to accept it.

@rubyriaz007 I would agree that bad Karma or action will definitely get us bad results but I am not sure about God writing each one of our destinies ..why make some criminals who rape and kill innocent s and what about the victims?

I believe in destiny because its's what is panned out for you no matter what you do..even if you do good at times bad things can still happen to you (vice versa) and it all a plan a motion.

@Kellywellz I feel that the theory of destiny is very depressing and demotivating because it essentially means that your actions and efforts don't mean much ..
